Synopsis

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has undertaken demolition action against an unauthorised construction at A-270, Sector 2, Airoli, after the structure continued to be built despite a statutory notice issued under the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act, 1966. The enforcement drive was carried out by the civic body's Encroachment Department under the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and the supervision of senior municipal officials. The action resulted in the partial removal of the unauthorised structure, with demolition teams, labourers, machinery and police personnel deployed for the operation. NMMC has stated that enforcement against unauthorised constructions within its jurisdiction will continue in the coming period.

Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has carried out demolition action against an unauthorised construction at A-270, Sector 2, Airoli, within the jurisdiction of its G Ward office, as part of its ongoing enforcement drive against illegal developments. The operation was undertaken in accordance with the directions of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and under the supervision of Additional Municipal Commissioner (II) Dr Rahul Gethe and Deputy Municipal Commissioner (Unauthorised Constructions Control) Dr Amol Palwe.
According to the civic body, the unauthorised construction had been undertaken by contractor Anand Pujari beyond the scope of the sanctioned building permission. NMMC stated that construction activities continued despite the absence of the necessary approvals prescribed under the applicable development regulations.
The G Ward office had earlier issued a notice to the concerned party on June 12, 2026, under Section 54 of the Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning (MRTP) Act, 1966, directing the removal of the unauthorised construction. The corporation said the owner was required to voluntarily demolish the unauthorised portion following the issuance of the notice. However, as the construction activity continued, the municipal administration initiated enforcement proceedings.
The demolition operation was organised under the supervision of Sadhana Patil, Assistant Municipal Commissioner and Ward Officer of Airoli. During the drive, civic officials partially demolished the unauthorised structure.
NMMC deployed officers and staff from the G Ward Encroachment Department for the operation, supported by a team of 16 labourers, two breaker machines and police personnel to maintain law and order during the demolition process.
The civic body stated that the action forms part of its continuing efforts to enforce planning regulations and address unauthorised construction within the municipal limits. It added that similar enforcement measures against illegal developments will be intensified in the future wherever violations of approved building permissions are identified.
