Synopsis

The Standing Committee of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has approved a series of civic infrastructure projects covering parks, drainage systems, sewerage networks and sports infrastructure across multiple nodes of the city. The proposals, presented by Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde and approved unanimously under the chairmanship of Standing Committee Chairman Ashok Bhauso Patil, include the redevelopment of two public parks in Vashi, sewerage upgrades in Nerul, repairs to the boundary wall at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex in CBD Belapur, and drainage and footpath works in Ghansoli. Collectively, the sanctioned projects are intended to improve public amenities, strengthen urban infrastructure and address long-standing civic issues affecting residents in several neighbourhoods.

The Standing Committee of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has approved multiple civic infrastructure projects across Vashi, Nerul, CBD Belapur and Ghansoli following a meeting held under the chairmanship of Standing Committee Chairman Ashok Bhauso Patil. The proposals, submitted by the municipal administration on behalf of Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, received unanimous approval after deliberations.
Among the key approvals are two park redevelopment projects in Vashi, aimed at upgrading recreational infrastructure within the city. NMMC stated that Navi Mumbai is recognised for its extensive network of public gardens, and the civic body continues to undertake renovation and beautification works to enhance these open spaces for residents. The Standing Committee approved a project worth INR 25.90 lakh for the development of Aai-Baba Udyan in Sector 7, Vashi, while a separate proposal valued at INR 30.59 lakh was sanctioned for the redevelopment of Gyan Kalash Udyan in Sector 6, Vashi.
The committee also approved sewerage improvement works in a condominium area of Sector 8, Nerul, where undersized and deteriorated sewer lines have led to recurring drainage issues. According to the civic administration, damaged chambers and ageing pipelines have resulted in blockages, preventing the proper flow of wastewater and generating repeated complaints from residents. To address these issues, sewerage rehabilitation works estimated at INR 63.05 lakh have been sanctioned.
In CBD Belapur, the Standing Committee approved INR 29.26 lakh for repairs to the compound wall at Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex. The civic body said the facility serves as an important sports venue for local residents and visitors from across Navi Mumbai, making the restoration work necessary to ensure the continued upkeep of the sports infrastructure.
Several drainage and pedestrian infrastructure projects were also approved in the Ghansoli ward. In the Shantinagar area, the committee sanctioned works worth INR 89.62 lakh for the construction of a 371-metre drain with a width of 0.70 metres and a 356-metre-long footpath measuring four metres in width. The project is intended to improve stormwater drainage and provide safer pedestrian movement in an area where deteriorating drains and footpaths have caused inconvenience to residents.
In another project within Ghansoli, the committee approved INR 31.12 lakh for the construction of a 130-metre-long drain with a width of 1.10 metres in a section of Balaram Wadi. The civic administration noted that the absence of a drainage network in the locality has resulted in water accumulation on roads due to inadequate runoff, prompting the need for dedicated drainage infrastructure.
NMMC stated that the approved proposals form part of its ongoing programme to strengthen urban infrastructure and improve civic amenities across the city through targeted investments in public spaces, drainage systems, sewerage networks and community facilities.
