Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commenced construction of the new Central Secretariat station as part of the Central Vista Metro corridor, a key segment of the upcoming Golden Line. The project is expected to strengthen connectivity across the capital while integrating the redeveloped Central Vista precinct with Delhi’s expanding metro network. Once completed, the station will emerge as a major interchange hub linking multiple metro corridors and improving access to government and administrative districts.
The next phase of Delhi’s metro expansion is now taking visible shape in the heart of the national capital. DMRC has begun construction activities for the new Central Secretariat station under the Central Vista Metro corridor, a strategically important project designed to support growing commuter demand and improve connectivity to one of the country’s most significant administrative zones. The development marks another milestone in Delhi’s efforts to create a more integrated and future-ready urban transport network.
The new station forms part of the Golden Line, a major metro corridor being developed under Phase IV of the Delhi Metro expansion programme. Positioned within the Central Vista precinct, the station is expected to play a critical role in connecting key government offices, public institutions and residential areas with the broader metro network.
Once operational, Central Secretariat is set to become one of Delhi Metro’s most important interchange points. The station will link the existing Yellow and Violet Lines with the upcoming Golden Line, creating a three-corridor transit hub in the centre of the city. This integration is expected to significantly improve passenger movement and reduce travel times for commuters travelling across different parts of Delhi.
Given the location's proximity to Parliament, government ministries and major administrative buildings, the project has been planned with a strong focus on handling high passenger volumes. The station design is expected to incorporate modern passenger amenities, improved circulation spaces and seamless interchange facilities to accommodate future demand.
The Central Vista Metro corridor is also being viewed as an important supporting infrastructure component for the ongoing transformation of the Central Vista district. Improved public transport connectivity is expected to reduce dependence on private vehicles, ease traffic congestion and enhance accessibility to the redeveloped government complex.
Construction activities have begun with extensive planning to minimise disruption in one of the busiest and most sensitive zones of the capital. Engineers face the challenge of executing underground works while ensuring smooth functioning of existing metro services, road traffic and government operations in the surrounding area.
The broader Golden Line project is expected to strengthen east-west and north-south connectivity across Delhi while bringing several new residential and commercial catchments into the metro network. For the Central Vista precinct, the new station represents a long-term investment in sustainable urban mobility, ensuring that one of India's most important civic districts remains well connected as the city continues to grow.
