Japan-based Jamco Interiors plans to invest USD 150 million in India to expand its engineering and supply chain operations, with Pune set to emerge as a key global aerospace design hub. The company has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Pune to strengthen capabilities in design, certification and product development. The investment will support global aviation programmes, enhance local sourcing and create skilled jobs, reflecting the growing role of India in the international aerospace manufacturing and engineering ecosystem.
Japan-based aircraft interiors manufacturer Jamco Interiors has announced plans to invest USD 150 million in India over the next few years to expand its engineering and supply chain operations, with Pune expected to play a central role in the company's global activities.
The company has inaugurated a Centre of Excellence in Pune, which will serve as a hub for engineering, design, certification and product development activities. The facility is intended to support Jamco's worldwide operations and strengthen India's position in the global aerospace value chain.
Jamco manufactures aircraft seats, galleys, lavatories and cabin interior products and supplies them to aircraft manufacturers and airlines across the world. Company executives said India offers a strong engineering talent pool and an expanding industrial ecosystem, making it a suitable location for long-term investments in aerospace design and support functions.
The planned investment will be directed towards enhancing engineering capabilities, strengthening supply chain operations and developing advanced technologies. The company also intends to expand its local vendor network and increase collaboration with Indian suppliers to improve sourcing efficiencies and support international programmes.
According to Jamco officials, the Pune Centre of Excellence will undertake activities related to product engineering, design, certification and digital technologies. The facility will support commercial aviation programmes and contribute to the development of future aerospace solutions. The company expects the expansion to create opportunities for engineers and professionals in areas such as product development, programme management and technical services.
Jamco also plans to work closely with educational institutions and industry partners to help build a skilled workforce for the aerospace sector. The company believes India can play a larger role in supporting global aviation programmes as demand for aircraft and cabin interiors continues to increase.
India's aerospace ecosystem has attracted increasing interest from international companies due to rising air traffic, large aircraft orders and government initiatives aimed at promoting manufacturing and engineering capabilities. Cities such as Pune have emerged as important centres for aerospace and defence investments because of their industrial infrastructure and availability of skilled manpower.
With the new investment, Jamco aims to strengthen its engineering presence, expand supply chain capabilities and support customers across international markets through its operations in India.
