Synopsis

The Assam government has set a target of completing two lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) within the next 100 days, according to Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora. Responding to a query in the State Assembly in the past week, the minister said that 22 lakh houses have been constructed across the state under the rural housing scheme since 2016. He also assured that allegations relating to irregularities in the geo-tagging of houses would be examined by the department. The government further said that a survey covering 34,99,144 houses was conducted during 2025–26 and that the preparation of the final list of eligible beneficiaries is underway in accordance with PMAY-G guidelines.

The Assam government has announced that it aims to complete two lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) within the next 100 days as part of its ongoing rural housing programme. The target was outlined in the past week by Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Atul Bora while responding to a query raised in the State Assembly.
Replying to Congress MLA Tanzil Hussain, Bora said that a total of 22 lakh houses have been constructed across Assam under PMAY-G since 2016. He informed the House that the government intends to complete another two lakh houses over the next 100 days and hand them over to beneficiaries under the scheme.
During the discussion, Hussain raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the geo-tagging of houses under the rural housing programme and sought an investigation into the matter.
Responding to the allegations, Bora said the Panchayat and Rural Development Department would examine the issue. He informed the Assembly that 20.99 lakh houses have so far been marked through the geo-tagging process and assured that the department would look into the concerns that had been raised.
The minister also provided an update on the identification of prospective beneficiaries under the scheme. According to him, the government carried out a survey covering 34,99,144 houses during 2025–26 to identify households eligible for assistance under PMAY-G.
Bora stated that the preparation of the final list of eligible beneficiaries is currently underway and is being carried out in accordance with the framework and eligibility criteria prescribed under the PMAY-G guidelines. The exercise is intended to ensure that assistance is extended only to households that qualify under the centrally sponsored rural housing programme.
The government's latest target forms part of its continued implementation of PMAY-G, which aims to provide permanent housing to eligible rural households lacking adequate residential accommodation. Alongside accelerating construction, the state has indicated that it will review concerns regarding the geo-tagging process while continuing the preparation of beneficiary lists in line with the scheme's prescribed norms.
