Synopsis

Twenty-four organisations across India's road construction, infrastructure, equipment manufacturing and technology sectors were recognised at the RAHSTA Awards 2026, held alongside the 16th RAHSTA Expo in Mumbai. Speaking at the event in the past week, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said technology is becoming central to highway development but stressed that engineering solutions must be adapted to local terrain and environmental conditions. The awards honoured companies and public agencies for achievements in highway construction, bridge and tunnel execution, road safety, sustainable materials, smart transport systems and project delivery. Major winners included Ceigall India, Welspun Enterprises, J. Kumar Infraprojects, Rajpath Infracon, GHV Infra Projects, Tata Hitachi, Tata Steel, Border Roads Organisation and Cube Highways, highlighting innovation and execution across the transport infrastructure sector.

Twenty-four organisations from India's road construction, infrastructure, engineering and equipment manufacturing sectors were honoured at the RAHSTA Awards 2026, presented during the 16th RAHSTA Expo at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. The awards, announced in the past week, recognised achievements in highway construction, engineering innovation, sustainability, road safety and infrastructure development.
Addressing the event, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said technology has become increasingly important in highway development, while emphasising that engineering solutions must be tailored to local geographical conditions. He noted that technologies suitable for urban infrastructure projects, such as tunnel boring machines used in Mumbai, may not be appropriate for fragile hill regions where controlled blasting techniques remain necessary to minimise ecological impact.
Bidur Kant Jha, Director of New Technology for Highway Development at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), said the ministry has established a structured framework for adopting new technologies, alternative construction materials and innovative engineering practices. He explained that technologies are required to obtain accreditation from the Indian Roads Congress (IRC) and demonstrate their effectiveness through pilot projects before being adopted on a wider scale.
The event also recognised Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), with a Special Recognition Award for his contribution to the development of Mumbai's underground tunnel network. During the event, he highlighted the importance of integrated urban planning and multimodal transport systems in supporting sustainable infrastructure development.
Among the major award recipients, GHV Infra Projects was named Emerging Contractor of the Year, while Ceigall India received the award for Excellence in Project Execution (Timely Delivery). J. Kumar Infraprojects and Rajpath Infracon were joint winners in the Excellence in Highway Construction category, and Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon received the award for Best Highway Project (BOT/HAM/PPP).
In the engineering and infrastructure categories, Welspun Enterprises won Best Bridge Execution, while the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) received awards for Best Tunnel Execution and Best Road Safety Technology. Cube Highways was recognised for Best Smart Highway/Intelligent Transport Solution through its Salaipudhur Madurai Tollway special purpose vehicle and also received the Excellence in Highway Asset Management award for the Ghaziabad-Aligarh Expressway.
Equipment and materials manufacturers were also recognised. Tata Hitachi Construction Machinery received the award for Best Earthmoving Equipment for Road, FRED India (formerly Dynapac Road Construction Equipment) won Best Compaction Equipment, Powerscreen was recognised for Most Innovative Road Construction Equipment, and Escorts Kubota received the Best Equipment for Productivity Enhancement award. Zydex Industries secured the top honour for Most Innovative Road Construction Material, while Tata Steel's Industrial By-Products Management Division was recognised for developing the Best Sustainable/Low-Carbon Material for Roads.
Organisers said the awards aim to recognise excellence across highway engineering, construction, safety and technology while encouraging collaboration between government agencies, contractors, equipment manufacturers and technology providers to improve the quality, resilience and safety of India's road infrastructure.
