He brings more than two decades of automotive industry experience across the Middle East, India, Europe, Africa and Asia Oceania, covering both electric and internal combustion engine vehicle businesses. Prior to the appointment, Rao served as Deputy CEO of VinFast India, where he helped establish the company's EV ecosystem, charging infrastructure and dealer network. The leadership change forms part of VinFast's broader international growth strategy.

Electric vehicle manufacturer VinFast has appointed Prashanth Rao as Chief Executive Officer of VinFast Middle East, reinforcing its strategy to expand its presence across the region's growing electric mobility market. The appointment was announced in the past week and forms part of the company's broader international expansion plans.
In his new role, Rao will oversee VinFast's regional operations, including business strategy, dealer network development, customer experience and initiatives aimed at increasing electric vehicle adoption across the Middle East. The company said the appointment reflects its commitment to strengthening its footprint in a market that is witnessing growing interest in sustainable mobility solutions.
Rao brings more than 20 years of experience in the global automotive industry, having worked across electric vehicle (EV) and internal combustion engine (ICE) segments. His career spans key markets in the Middle East, India, Europe, Africa and Asia Oceania, with expertise in sales, aftersales operations, dealer network development and customer experience management.
Before assuming his new position, Rao served as Deputy CEO of VinFast India, where he was involved in establishing the company's electric vehicle operations, charging infrastructure and dealer network in the country. His previous leadership roles also include positions at Nissan INFINITI Middle East, Honda Middle East and Toyota Kirloskar Motor, where he managed operations across 19 countries.
According to VinFast, Rao has also overseen large dealer networks comprising more than 40 locations and has led projects involving EV infrastructure development and battery repair systems. During his career, he has received several Nissan Global Chairman's Awards as well as JD Power recognitions for customer service and operational excellence.
Commenting on his appointment, Rao said the Middle East is emerging as one of the world's fastest-evolving mobility markets, supported by increasing momentum towards sustainable transportation. He stated that his priority would be to work closely with local partners and stakeholders to expand access to electric vehicles while enhancing the customer ownership experience across the region.
VinFast said Rao's appointment aligns with its objective of accelerating regional growth by strengthening partnerships, expanding distribution channels and supporting the transition towards electric mobility.
The company has been pursuing an international expansion strategy by establishing operations across multiple global markets while investing in dealer networks, charging infrastructure and customer support systems. The appointment of a dedicated regional chief executive for the Middle East is expected to support VinFast's efforts to scale its operations and strengthen its presence in one of the company's identified growth markets for electric vehicles.
