The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has opened public consultation for the draft Dehradun Master Plan 2041, inviting suggestions and objections from residents and stakeholders before the plan is finalised. The revised blueprint focuses on planned urban expansion, transport infrastructure, environmental conservation, affordable housing, and balanced land use to accommodate future population growth. Citizens can review the draft online and at designated offices, with the feedback process expected to shape the city's long-term development strategy.
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has initiated the public consultation process for the draft Dehradun Master Plan 2041, marking an important step towards finalising the city's long-term urban development strategy. Residents, industry stakeholders, institutions and civil society organisations have been invited to examine the draft plan and submit suggestions or objections before it is sent to the state government for approval.
Prepared to guide Dehradun's growth over the next two decades, the Master Plan 2041 seeks to balance rapid urbanisation with environmental sustainability while improving infrastructure and public services. The draft addresses key aspects including land use, transportation, housing, economic development, environmental conservation and civic infrastructure.
The authority has made the draft plan available both online and at designated MDDA offices to encourage wider public participation. Officials have urged citizens to review the proposals carefully and provide feedback within the stipulated consultation period. The responses received will be examined before incorporating suitable changes into the final version of the master plan.
One of the central objectives of the plan is to manage the city's expanding population through planned urban growth instead of unregulated development. The blueprint identifies future residential, commercial, institutional and industrial zones while proposing better integration of transport networks, public utilities and social infrastructure.
The draft also places considerable emphasis on environmental protection. It proposes measures to safeguard forests, river corridors, water bodies and ecologically sensitive areas while promoting sustainable land use practices. Green spaces, open areas and ecological buffers have been integrated into the planning framework to preserve Dehradun's natural landscape amid increasing urbanisation.
Infrastructure development forms another key component of the plan. Proposed interventions include strengthening road connectivity, improving public transport, expanding water supply and sewerage systems, upgrading drainage infrastructure and ensuring adequate solid waste management facilities. The plan also seeks to improve disaster resilience and climate adaptation by incorporating flood management and environmentally sensitive planning measures.
Housing has been identified as another priority, with provisions for affordable housing alongside planned residential expansion. Authorities aim to ensure that future development accommodates different income groups while reducing pressure on existing urban areas.
The Master Plan 2041 is also expected to support economic growth by creating space for commercial activities, tourism, education, healthcare and knowledge-based industries. Improved infrastructure and planned development are intended to enhance investment opportunities while maintaining the city's environmental character.
Officials have described the consultation process as an important opportunity for citizens to participate in shaping Dehradun's future. After reviewing public feedback, MDDA will revise the draft where necessary before forwarding the final Master Plan 2041 for government approval, providing the framework for the city's planned development over the coming decades.
