The Gujarat government has begun work on a comprehensive electric vehicle (EV) charging station policy to strengthen charging infrastructure and support the state's transition towards cleaner mobility. The proposal was discussed during a state cabinet meeting, where Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed officials to prepare the policy. The initiative aims to improve the availability of EV charging stations, promote the use of electric vehicles, and encourage the adoption of green energy. It is expected to complement Gujarat's ongoing efforts to expand sustainable transport infrastructure.
The Gujarat government has initiated steps to develop a comprehensive Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station Policy to improve charging infrastructure across the state and support the wider adoption of electric vehicles.
The proposal was discussed during the state cabinet meeting held earlier this week. Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel directed officials to prepare a detailed policy focused on expanding EV charging facilities and creating a stronger ecosystem for electric mobility.
Following the meeting, government spokesperson and minister Jitu Vaghani said the proposed policy is intended to strengthen the state's EV charging network while encouraging greater use of electric vehicles and green energy.
The initiative is expected to complement Gujarat's existing efforts to promote sustainable transportation. A stronger charging network is considered one of the key requirements for increasing EV adoption, reducing dependence on conventional fuels, and supporting the state's clean energy goals.
Gujarat has been actively promoting electric mobility through policy support and infrastructure development in recent years. The proposed charging station policy is expected to provide a structured framework for expanding charging facilities across urban centres, highways, commercial hubs, and other key locations, making EV usage more convenient for consumers and businesses.
