The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has reported 62 violations of pollution control norms across construction and demolition (C&D) sites, industrial units and diesel generator set operations in the National Capital Region (NCR) during inspections conducted between June 14 and June 30. The findings were reviewed during the Enforcement Task Force's 134th meeting held in the past week. Authorities carried out 173 inspections, including checks at C&D sites, industrial clusters and diesel generator installations. Following compliance verification, seven resumption orders were issued for construction sites, with two granted in Uttar Pradesh and five in Haryana. The CAQM said enforcement agencies had acted on all identified violations and reiterated the need for strict compliance with environmental regulations and stronger inter-agency coordination to improve air quality across the NCR.
The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has identified 62 violations of pollution control norms across construction and demolition (C&D) sites, industrial units and diesel generator set operations in the National Capital Region (NCR) following inspections conducted between June 14 and June 30. The findings were reviewed during the 134th meeting of the CAQM Enforcement Task Force (ETF) held in the past week.
According to the commission, enforcement agencies carried out 173 inspections across the NCR during the review period to assess compliance with prescribed environmental regulations. The inspections covered multiple categories, including construction and demolition sites, industrial clusters and diesel generator set operations.
The CAQM said flying squads conducted 15 inspections at construction and demolition sites, 91 inspections across industrial clusters and 67 inspections relating to diesel generator sets during the monitoring exercise.
A total of 62 violations of pollution control norms were detected. Of these, seven violations were reported at construction and demolition sites, 31 were identified at industrial units and 24 related to diesel generator set operations.
During the meeting, the Enforcement Task Force reviewed the action taken by the concerned authorities against the identified violations. According to an official statement, the committee noted that all actionable cases relating to industrial units, construction and demolition activities and diesel generator sets had been addressed by the respective enforcement agencies.
Following verification of compliance with the prescribed environmental requirements, the commission issued seven resumption orders for construction and demolition sites where restrictions had previously been imposed. State-wise, two resumption orders were granted in Uttar Pradesh, while five were issued in Haryana after authorities confirmed that the sites had complied with the applicable pollution control measures.
The review also covered follow-up action on decisions taken during the Enforcement Task Force's 133rd meeting. The commission stated that implementation of enforcement measures across the identified sectors had been examined as part of the ongoing compliance monitoring process.
The CAQM reiterated the importance of sustained enforcement to curb air pollution across the National Capital Region. It emphasised that strict adherence to prescribed environmental norms, combined with strengthened coordination among enforcement agencies, remains essential for effective pollution control.
The commission said regular inspections and enforcement drives will continue to ensure compliance across industrial units, construction sites and other regulated activities. It added that continued monitoring and timely enforcement action are necessary to improve environmental compliance and support ongoing efforts to reduce air pollution levels across the NCR.
