Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has inaugurated a 220.90-metre pre-stressed girder bridge over the Dhangarhi Nala in Nainital district, built at a cost of INR 29.65 crore on National Highway-309. The bridge is designed to provide uninterrupted connectivity between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions by addressing recurring monsoon disruptions caused by rising water levels in the Dhangarhi Nala. The state government said the project will improve road safety, facilitate passenger and freight movement, and support tourism and regional economic activity. During the event, the Chief Minister also announced that the nearby 175.60-metre Panaud Bridge, being constructed at a cost of around INR 18.43 crore, is nearing completion.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated a 220.90-metre pre-stressed girder bridge over the Dhangarhi Nala in Nainital district on Sunday, marking the completion of an INR 29.65 crore road infrastructure project on National Highway-309 aimed at improving connectivity between the Kumaon and Garhwal regions.
Addressing the inauguration ceremony in Ramnagar, the Chief Minister said the route had been repeatedly disrupted during the monsoon because of rising water levels in the Dhangarhi Nala, creating difficulties for residents, tourists and emergency services. He stated that the newly constructed bridge would provide a permanent solution by ensuring uninterrupted movement along the highway during periods of heavy rainfall.
According to the state government, the bridge has also been designed to improve traffic movement through the adjoining forest area, which is expected to support wildlife conservation by reducing congestion and traffic interruptions. The project forms part of wider efforts to strengthen transport infrastructure across Uttarakhand through improved road connectivity.
Dhami said National Highway-309 serves as an important transport corridor linking the Kumaon and Garhwal divisions. He added that improved connectivity is expected to facilitate safer and more efficient travel while supporting tourism, trade, local businesses and regional economic development. The Chief Minister also referred to the government's infrastructure programme, stating that work is underway across sectors including roads, bridges, railway expansion, ropeways, healthcare, education, tourism and border area development.
During the event, the Chief Minister announced that construction of the nearby Panaud Bridge, measuring 175.60 metres in length and being built at an estimated cost of INR 18.43 crore, is approaching completion. He said both bridges would strengthen regional connectivity and improve transport infrastructure in the area once fully operational.
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta said the Dhangarhi Bridge would further strengthen connectivity between Kumaon and Garhwal while supporting trade, agriculture, tourism, education and healthcare services. He added that the improved route would also benefit pilgrims travelling on the Char Dham Yatra and domestic as well as international visitors heading to Jim Corbett National Park.
