The Gujarat government has inaugurated the state's first six-lane cable-stayed flyover at Bhat Circle on the Gandhinagar–Ahmedabad Airport Road, marking a major milestone in strengthening the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar growth corridor. Built at a cost of INR 175 crore, the 1.48-km-long project, along with upgraded service roads and a widened Narmada Canal bridge, is expected to ease congestion, improve travel time for nearly 2 lakh daily commuters, and provide seamless connectivity to key destinations such as GIFT City, Ahmedabad airport and surrounding urban centres. The project also supports Gujarat's long-term vision of developing modern transport infrastructure to facilitate economic growth, urban expansion and improved mobility across one of the state's busiest corridors.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has inaugurated the state's first urban six-lane cable-stayed flyover at Bhat Circle on the Gandhinagar–Ahmedabad Airport Road, marking a significant milestone in the government's efforts to modernise transport infrastructure and improve connectivity across the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar urban corridor. Constructed at an estimated cost of INR 175 crore, the project is expected to substantially ease congestion on one of the busiest arterial routes connecting the state capital with Ahmedabad and its international airport.
The newly opened flyover stretches approximately 1.48 kilometres and has been designed as a six-lane cable-stayed structure to facilitate uninterrupted traffic movement over the heavily congested Bhat Circle junction. The project also includes upgraded service roads and the expansion of the nearby Narmada Canal bridge into a 12-lane facility, creating an integrated traffic management system capable of accommodating future traffic growth in the rapidly urbanising corridor.
According to the Gujarat government, the flyover is expected to benefit nearly 2 lakh commuters who use the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar route every day. The corridor serves as a vital transport link connecting residential neighbourhoods, commercial districts, educational institutions, GIFT City, government offices and the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. By enabling signal-free movement through one of the busiest intersections, the project is expected to reduce travel time, improve fuel efficiency and lower vehicular emissions caused by prolonged traffic congestion.
During the inauguration, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted the government's commitment to building world-class urban infrastructure capable of supporting Gujarat's rapid economic growth. He stated that the Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar corridor has emerged as one of the state's most important development zones, requiring continuous investment in transport networks to accommodate rising commercial activity, urban expansion and increasing commuter traffic. The new flyover forms part of a broader vision to transform the region into a seamlessly connected economic and administrative hub.
Officials noted that the project has been jointly implemented with the support of the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and other state agencies. Besides improving commuter convenience, the flyover has been designed to enhance road safety by separating through traffic from local traffic at the busy junction, thereby reducing conflict points and improving overall traffic discipline. The cable-stayed design also adds a distinctive architectural landmark to the city's expanding urban landscape.
The inauguration aligns with Gujarat's ongoing emphasis on strengthening infrastructure to support industrial growth, urbanisation and investment. The Ahmedabad–Gandhinagar corridor has witnessed substantial public and private investment over the past decade, with developments such as GIFT City, metro rail expansion, expressways and commercial districts transforming the region into one of India's fastest-growing urban clusters. Improved road connectivity is expected to further enhance the competitiveness of the corridor by reducing logistics delays and facilitating easier movement of people and businesses.
Urban planning experts believe projects such as the Bhat Circle cable-stayed flyover are becoming increasingly important as Gujarat's metropolitan regions continue to expand. By integrating modern engineering with long-term transport planning, the state aims to create infrastructure capable of supporting sustained economic growth while improving the quality of urban mobility for residents and businesses alike. The latest project reinforces Gujarat's strategy of investing in high-capacity transport infrastructure to meet future mobility demands across its rapidly developing cities.
