A defence manufacturing unit with a proposed investment of INR 3,000 crore is set to be developed in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, with the groundbreaking ceremony scheduled to take place in the past week. The project, being established through the Adani Group, will be linked to the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, according to Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. The development is expected to strengthen industrial activity in the region while supporting India's defence manufacturing capabilities. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav and Karan Adani are expected to attend the foundation ceremony, which marks a significant investment in the state's emerging defence manufacturing ecosystem.
A defence manufacturing unit with an estimated investment of INR 3,000 crore will be established in Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, with the project set to be integrated with the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor, Union Minister Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia announced in the past week. The project will be developed through the Adani Group, and its groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled to take place on Sunday in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shri Mohan Yadav and Karan Adani.
Addressing reporters, Scindia said the project represents a collaborative initiative involving the Central and Madhya Pradesh governments and is intended to strengthen industrial development in the region. He stated that linking the proposed defence manufacturing facility with the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor would enhance regional connectivity within the defence manufacturing ecosystem and support further industrialisation.
According to the Union minister, the project is expected to contribute to economic development in Shivpuri and surrounding areas by creating new industrial activity. He added that the establishment of the facility would also strengthen India's defence manufacturing capabilities by supporting the production of advanced defence equipment for the armed forces.
Scindia referred to the region's earlier association with defence infrastructure, noting that during the tenure of his father, Madhavrao Scindia, a Mirage 2000 aircraft centre had been established at Maharajpura in Gwalior for the Indian Air Force. He indicated that the proposed defence manufacturing project represents a continuation of efforts to expand defence-related infrastructure in the region.
The announcement comes as the Centre continues to promote domestic defence manufacturing through industrial corridors and private sector participation. The proposed integration of the Shivpuri facility with the Uttar Pradesh Defence Industrial Corridor is expected to strengthen manufacturing linkages and support the broader objective of expanding indigenous defence production.
During his interaction with the media, Scindia also commented on the forthcoming Datia Assembly by-election, stating that the Bharatiya Janata Party had begun preparations for the electoral contest. He said development initiatives being implemented across Madhya Pradesh would also be extended to Datia and noted that approval had been secured for an airport in the area.
The Datia Assembly by-election is scheduled to be held on July 30, with counting of votes to take place on August 3. The vacancy arose after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti's membership of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly was terminated following his conviction and three-year prison sentence in a cheating case by a Delhi court. Bharti had won the Datia seat in the 2023 Assembly elections by defeating senior BJP leader and former Home Minister Narottam Mishra by a margin of more than 7,500 votes.
