Synopsis

Deepak Group marked World Environment Day by launching a 50-acre mangrove afforestation initiative along the Paniyadra coastline near Dahej in Bharuch district, Gujarat. The programme brought together company employees, local communities and project teams to plant Avicennia marina, a salt-tolerant mangrove species that plays a vital role in protecting coastal ecosystems. The initiative forms part of the group's corporate social responsibility efforts and is designed as a long-term, community-led restoration programme with ongoing monitoring and ecological stewardship. Alongside the coastal project, the company conducted plantation drives across its manufacturing locations in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Telangana, planting more than 1,500 saplings and organising environmental awareness activities aimed at encouraging employee participation in sustainability and conservation efforts.

Deepak Group has undertaken a large-scale mangrove plantation drive along the Paniyadra coastline near Dahej in Bharuch district, Gujarat, to mark World Environment Day. The initiative, carried out in collaboration with local coastal communities and project teams, involves the restoration of 50 acres of vulnerable coastal marshland through the planting of Avicennia marina, a mangrove species widely recognised for its resilience in saline coastal conditions and its role in protecting shorelines from erosion.
The plantation programme has been launched as a corporate social responsibility initiative and is intended to be a long-term environmental restoration effort. According to the company, the project will combine community participation, local ecological knowledge, regular monitoring and sustained environmental stewardship to support the regeneration of the coastal ecosystem.
The company stated that the initiative aligns with this year's World Environment Day theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future”. The afforestation programme is expected to focus on strengthening natural coastal defences while supporting ecological conservation in the region.
Mangroves are considered among the world's most productive ecosystems due to their ability to absorb carbon, stabilise coastlines and provide breeding and nursery habitats for marine species. The restoration of such ecosystems is increasingly viewed as an important nature-based solution for climate resilience and biodiversity conservation. Deepak Group noted that healthy mangrove habitats create conditions that enable the return of diverse flora and fauna, including birds, crustaceans and other species that contribute to ecological balance.
Beyond the coastal restoration project, the company organised plantation activities across its manufacturing facilities and green belts in multiple states. Employees participated in tree-planting drives at facilities located in Nandesari, Dahej and Savli in Gujarat, as well as Roha and Taloja in Maharashtra and Hyderabad in Telangana. The plantations focused on native tree species aimed at enhancing local green cover and supporting environmental sustainability.
As part of its environmental awareness efforts, Deepak Group also arranged interactive sessions with subject experts to encourage employee engagement on sustainability issues. The sessions were designed to promote environmental responsibility and support the development of what the company described as “Eco Soldiers” within its workforce. Participants were recognised through Green Champion certificates.
The company reported that more than 1,500 saplings were planted across India during the World Environment Day activities. Employees also participated in an environmental pledge aimed at promoting cleaner and greener surroundings.
Deepak Nitrite Limited, the flagship company of the group, operates across seven manufacturing locations and serves industries including dyes and pigments, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics, textiles, paper, home care and personal care products, along with petrochemical intermediates such as phenol, acetone and isopropyl alcohol. The company stated that its facilities are accredited under Responsible Care standards and that it continues to pursue sustainability initiatives through globally benchmarked environmental practices.
