Synopsis

Haryana has emerged as the top-performing state in the country in terms of growth in state GST collections for May, registering a 22 per cent year-on-year increase, significantly higher than the national average of 6 per cent. The state reported net SGST collections of INR 4,456 crore, marking an increase of INR 807 crore compared to the same period last year. Haryana has also maintained strong performance in cumulative GST growth during the first two months of FY 2026–27, recording a 40 per cent rise over the corresponding period last year, supported by steady economic activity and tax administration efficiency.

Chandigarh, earlier this week, Haryana was reported to have secured the first position among all states in India in terms of growth rate in state GST collections for May, with a year-on-year increase of 22 per cent, according to an official statement. The national average growth in state GST collections for the same period stood at 6 per cent.
Haryana was followed by Meghalaya, which recorded a 19 per cent rise, Karnataka with 17 per cent, and Gujarat with 16 per cent growth in state GST collections.
The state’s net state GST (post-settlement) collection for May stood at INR 4,456 crore. This was higher by INR 807 crore compared to the INR 3,649 crore collected in the same month of the previous year.
The statement also highlighted that Haryana has maintained the top position in cumulative growth of state GST revenue among all states during the first two months of FY 2026–27, registering a 40 per cent growth compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year. During this period, the national average growth in state GST revenue was reported at 23 per cent.
It was further noted that the state has consistently recorded strong GST revenue growth in recent periods. In the previous financial year 2025–26 as well, Haryana recorded a 22 per cent growth in state GST revenue, significantly higher than the national average of 6 per cent.
Officials attributed the steady performance to the expanding state economy and efficient tax administration, stating that these factors have supported sustained revenue growth.
