The Association of Global NICMARians (AGNI), the alumni body of NICMAR with a 43-year legacy and a global network of more than 10,500 professionals, hosted ASPIRE 2026 in Mumbai on June 1. The annual symposium, themed “Innovation to Transformation”, brought together industry leaders, entrepreneurs, experts and professionals from the construction, infrastructure, real estate and project management sectors to discuss the evolving needs of the built environment industry.
The event focused on the growing importance of innovation, technology adoption, artificial intelligence, sustainability and data-driven decision-making in strengthening the sector’s competitiveness and long-term growth. Discussions centred on how organisations can adapt to changing industry requirements and improve operational efficiency through modern tools and collaborative approaches.
During the symposium, AGNI outlined its vision of evolving into a prominent industry think tank and announced a series of initiatives aimed at improving benchmarking, knowledge-sharing and decision-making across the sector. These include the launch of an Industry Benchmarking Programme and the development of a digital ecosystem comprising the AGNI Innovation Impact Assessment Tool, Salary Benchmarking Tool, Company Benchmarking Tool, Material Costing Tool and Vendor Portfolio Platform.
The event’s chief guest, Dr. P.R. Swarup, Director General of the Construction Industry Development Council (CIDC), highlighted the importance of developing a future-ready workforce, strengthening technical competencies and promoting collaboration to support the advancement of India’s construction industry. He encouraged AGNI to work closely with CIDC to advance its industry transformation agenda.
As an outcome of the symposium, AGNI and CIDC agreed to pursue future collaboration across areas including industry development, skills enhancement, knowledge dissemination and the adoption of innovation throughout the construction ecosystem.
A dedicated session on Mumbai’s infrastructure transformation was delivered by Hemant Jagtap, Officer on Special Duty at the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC). The presentation examined the planning and execution of major infrastructure projects that are contributing to improved urban mobility and regional connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The symposium also witnessed the launch of the inaugural AGNI Excellence Awards, designed to recognise innovations capable of delivering measurable impact within the construction sector. The awards programme received more than 34 nominations across five categories, with 12 shortlisted startups presenting their solutions before an audience and jury panel. Winners were selected through an online voting process involving both jury members and attendees.
According to AGNI representatives, the awards are intended to provide innovators and startups with direct access to industry stakeholders and decision-makers, while encouraging the implementation of practical solutions rather than focusing solely on concepts. The organisation stated that ASPIRE 2026 reflects increasing demand for industry collaboration, knowledge exchange and innovation-led dialogue as India’s infrastructure and real estate sectors continue to evolve.
