The inquiry has been initiated following concerns regarding the safety and environmental implications of the selected railway alignment. Questions have emerged over whether alternative routing options could have reduced the extent of tree cutting and ecological disruption linked to the infrastructure project.
According to reports, the large-scale felling took place as part of railway line development works in forested sections of Madhya Pradesh. The issue gained attention after concerns were raised regarding the alignment’s proximity to terrain and safety-related factors, alongside the environmental cost associated with clearing extensive forest cover.
Officials have now been directed to examine whether the approved alignment was technically appropriate and whether alternative routes were adequately evaluated during the planning and approval stages. The inquiry is also expected to review compliance with environmental assessment procedures and project clearance mechanisms.
Infrastructure projects involving railway expansion frequently require forest land diversion and environmental approvals, particularly in ecologically sensitive regions.
