Synopsis

Authorities in Gurugram have launched a large-scale demolition drive against unauthorised commercial structures and encroachments in the Chakkarpur area near Galleria Road following directions linked to Supreme Court proceedings. The enforcement action, led by the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP), targeted illegal constructions operating in violation of approved land-use norms. During the initial phase of the exercise, multiple structures were removed with police support as officials sought to clear unauthorised commercial activity from one of the city's prominent mixed-use corridors. The drive forms part of a broader enforcement campaign underway across Gurugram to address illegal developments, reclaim public spaces and ensure compliance with planning regulations in licensed colonies and commercial zones.

The Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) has commenced a major demolition drive against illegal commercial structures and unauthorised constructions along Galleria Road in Gurugram's Chakkarpur area, following judicial directions and ongoing enforcement efforts aimed at restoring compliance with planning regulations. The action began in the past week with support from local police and focused on structures operating in violation of approved land-use provisions.
According to officials, the enforcement exercise was undertaken in conformity with orders of the Supreme Court and forms part of a wider campaign against illegal constructions across Gurugram. During the initial phase of the drive, 13 unauthorised structures were demolished by DTCP's enforcement wing with assistance from personnel of Sector-29 police station. The structures were located near the Galleria Road corridor in Chakkarpur, an area that has witnessed increasing scrutiny over unauthorised commercial activity and encroachments.
Authorities stated that the operation was intended to remove constructions that violated planning norms and land-use regulations. The drive is expected to continue as officials identify additional violations and pursue action against properties found to be operating without the required approvals. The enforcement action reflects a broader push by Haryana's urban development authorities to strengthen compliance with development controls and curb unauthorised construction in rapidly urbanising areas.
The latest operation comes amid a series of anti-encroachment and demolition campaigns undertaken across Gurugram during recent months. Government agencies, including DTCP and the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), have intensified efforts to remove illegal structures, reclaim public land and clear right-of-way areas in residential and commercial districts. Several such drives have targeted encroachments on roads, green belts, footpaths and public spaces across the city.
Officials have maintained that enforcement measures are being carried out to uphold approved planning frameworks and address violations that affect infrastructure, mobility and public access. The administration has also indicated that compliance requirements will continue to be monitored and that action will be taken against developments found to be in breach of statutory norms.
With the demolition drive now underway on the Galleria Road stretch, authorities are expected to continue inspections in adjoining areas as part of ongoing efforts to regulate urban development and remove unauthorised commercial constructions from key corridors in Gurugram.
