Synopsis

Knauf India has introduced Drystar, a fibre-reinforced gypsum board system designed for moisture-prone and high-humidity environments across residential, commercial, hospitality and healthcare projects. Announced in New Delhi, the product is intended for interior dry construction applications exposed to moisture, humidity and intermittent water contact. The board combines a moisture-resistant glass-fleece surface with an engineered gypsum core to enhance resistance to mould growth and water absorption. Classified under European standards for fire performance, strength and moisture protection, Drystar is aimed at washrooms, hospitals, hotels, airports, schools and other infrastructure projects requiring durable, fire-safe and moisture-resistant wall and ceiling systems. The launch forms part of Knauf India’s efforts to expand the availability of specialised building materials in the domestic construction market.

Knauf India has launched Drystar, a specialised gypsum board system engineered for humid and wet environments, as developers and construction companies increasingly seek building materials capable of withstanding moisture exposure while maintaining long-term structural performance.
Announced in New Delhi earlier this week, the product has been developed for use in interior dry construction systems exposed to high humidity, moisture and intermittent water contact. The company said the new solution addresses growing requirements across modern building projects for materials that can minimise mould formation, reduce water absorption and support durability over extended periods.
Drystar is a fibre-reinforced gypsum board incorporating a moisture-resistant glass-fleece surface and a specially engineered gypsum core. According to the company, this combination provides enhanced protection against mould growth and moisture penetration while allowing the board to retain its performance characteristics in demanding indoor environments.
The product records water absorption levels below 3% and offers high resistance to mould formation. It is classified under the European standard EN 15283-1 as GM-FH1IR, indicating enhanced fire performance, improved surface hardness, lower water absorption and increased strength. The board also carries an A2-s1,d0 fire classification, identifying it as a non-combustible construction material suitable for projects with stringent fire safety requirements.
Sumit Bidani, Chief Executive Officer of Knauf India, stated that construction projects increasingly require materials capable of addressing durability, hygiene, fire safety, moisture management and sustainability requirements simultaneously. He said the launch of Drystar introduces a drywall solution specifically designed for wet-area and high-humidity applications, combining mould and moisture resistance with the efficiency and flexibility associated with modern dry construction systems.
The company highlighted several applications for the product across different asset classes. In residential and commercial developments, the board can be used for washroom walls and ceilings that experience regular moisture exposure and require compatibility with waterproofing systems and ceramic tiles.
Within the hospitality sector, Drystar is intended for spas, bathrooms and wellness facilities where humidity levels remain consistently high. In healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics and diagnostic centres, the mould-resistant properties are expected to support hygienic interior environments in treatment areas and wash zones.
The product is also designed for spaces exposed to elevated humidity and occasional water splashes, while its surface characteristics allow use in suspended ceiling systems within semi-exterior locations such as entrance canopies, covered walkways and balconies. Airports, schools, shopping centres and public infrastructure projects may utilise the system in changing rooms, washrooms and utility areas where moisture resistance and durability are important operational requirements.
According to Knauf India, Drystar additionally offers termite resistance, ease of installation comparable to conventional gypsum boards, flexibility for curved applications and compatibility with waterproofing membranes, tiles and sealants. The company said the launch reflects its continued focus on introducing globally established building solutions to support residential, commercial, hospitality and healthcare developments across India.
