ITC Hotels Limited has signed a management agreement for a 143-key Welcomhotel property in Ayodhya, strengthening its presence in Uttar Pradesh and expanding the footprint of its upper-upscale hospitality brand. The hotel will be developed on a four-acre site and is designed to cater to growing demand from religious and leisure travellers visiting the city. The property will feature guest rooms, suites, dining facilities, wellness amenities and more than 11,000 sq. ft. of banquet space. The signing follows recent Welcomhotel announcements in Bodh Gaya, Shirdi and Vrindavan and aligns with ITC Hotels’ strategy of expanding into emerging cultural and spiritual destinations. The move comes as Ayodhya continues to witness rising visitor numbers, supported by infrastructure upgrades, improved connectivity and ongoing urban development initiatives.
ITC Hotels Limited has announced the signing of a management agreement for a 143-key Welcomhotel in Ayodhya, further expanding its hospitality portfolio in Uttar Pradesh and strengthening its presence in India’s growing spiritual tourism market.
The hotel will be developed on a four-acre site in Ayodhya and will operate under the Welcomhotel brand, which forms part of ITC Hotels’ upper-upscale hospitality segment. The signing follows recent additions to the brand’s pipeline in destinations including Bodh Gaya, Shirdi and Vrindavan.
According to the company, the property has been conceived to offer a contemporary hospitality experience while drawing inspiration from Ayodhya’s cultural and spiritual heritage. The architectural design is intended to reflect the city’s historical significance and provide guests with experiences connected to the region’s traditions and legacy.
The hotel will comprise 143 guest rooms and suites, alongside an all-day dining restaurant. It will also feature more than 11,000 sq. ft. of indoor banqueting space designed to accommodate weddings, social gatherings, celebrations and corporate events.
In addition to accommodation and event facilities, the property will include a swimming pool, fitness centre and spa facilities aimed at providing wellness-focused experiences for visitors.
The latest signing forms part of ITC Hotels’ broader expansion strategy targeting destinations witnessing increasing tourism demand. The company stated that the Welcomhotel brand is focused on strengthening its presence in emerging Tier II and Tier III cities with strong cultural, heritage and spiritual significance.
Commenting on the development, Anil Chadha, Managing Director of ITC Hotels Limited, said the growth of domestic travel and interest in spiritual destinations has reshaped India’s tourism landscape by encouraging travellers to reconnect with the country’s cultural heritage.
He noted that Ayodhya holds deep cultural and religious significance for millions of people and added that the signing aligns with the company’s asset-right growth strategy as well as its focus on expanding into destinations with strong long-term tourism potential.
Ashwani Garg and Vishal Nand, partners at M/S Kiraan Planners & Project Developers LLP, stated that the collaboration with ITC Hotels aims to create a hospitality offering suited to the growing number of domestic and international visitors travelling to Ayodhya. They added that the property is expected to contribute to the development of organised branded hospitality infrastructure in the city.
Ayodhya has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing spiritual tourism destinations following significant infrastructure investments and improvements in regional connectivity. The city is expected to attract millions of visitors annually, supported by ongoing urban development projects and enhanced transport links.
Industry observers note that the growth in visitor arrivals has created increasing demand for organised hospitality facilities, particularly in the upscale segment where accommodation supply remains relatively limited.
ITC Hotels currently operates a portfolio of more than 150 hotels across over 95 destinations, representing more than 14,200 keys. The company manages hospitality brands across luxury, premium, upper-upscale, boutique, heritage and mid-market segments, while continuing to expand its presence in key leisure, business and pilgrimage destinations across India.
