The announcements reflect continued investment by hotel operators in leisure-driven markets supported by tourism, weddings, spiritual travel and hospitality demand.
IHG Hotels & Resorts and Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL) have separately announced new hotel development agreements in Udaipur, Rajasthan, and Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, as both hospitality operators continue to expand their portfolios in prominent leisure and tourism destinations across India.
IHG Hotels & Resorts has entered into a management agreement with Circle View Estate Private Ltd for the development of a 140-key voco hotel in Udaipur. The property is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2029 and will strengthen the company's premium hospitality offering in Rajasthan.
According to the company, Udaipur continues to be one of India's most established leisure destinations, drawing significant domestic tourism traffic while also maintaining a strong position in the weddings, events and hospitality segments. Commenting on the development, Sudeep Jain, Managing Director, South West Asia, IHG Hotels & Resorts, said the company viewed Udaipur as an attractive market for premium hotel growth because of its sustained appeal among leisure travellers and event organisers. He added that the partnership with Circle View Estate Private Ltd would help expand the voco brand's presence in Rajasthan and support the group's broader premium portfolio strategy in the state.
The signing comes as IHG accelerates its expansion plans in India. The company currently operates 52 hotels across six brands in the country and has a development pipeline of 98 additional hotels expected to open over the next three to five years.
In a separate announcement, Indian Hotels Company Ltd signed a 105-key Taj hotel in Dharamshala, a destination that has witnessed growing visitor interest due to its spiritual significance and tourism appeal.
The project is being developed in partnership with Atman Resort & Cottages LLP and is classified as a brownfield development. IHCL stated that the property also offers opportunities for future expansion as demand in the market evolves.
Suma Venkatesh, Executive Vice President, Real Estate and Development at IHCL, said Dharamshala continues to attract a broad range of travellers, supported by its religious importance and increasing tourism activity. She noted that the partnership with Atman Resort & Cottages LLP aligns with the company's strategy of strengthening its presence in high-potential hospitality destinations.
With the signing of the Dharamshala property, IHCL's portfolio in Himachal Pradesh will increase to 27 hotels, including 12 projects currently under development. The addition further expands the company's presence in northern India's tourism-driven markets, where demand for branded hospitality assets continues to support new hotel development and expansion activity.
