Lubrizol and Grasim Industries Ltd have inaugurated a Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) resin manufacturing facility at Vilayat in Gujarat’s Bharuch district, strengthening domestic production capabilities for a key raw material used in construction and infrastructure applications. The facility was inaugurated by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel in the presence of senior executives from both companies and state officials. CPVC resin is widely used in plumbing systems, water management networks, fire safety infrastructure and industrial piping. The new plant is expected to support rising demand from India’s infrastructure, real estate and building materials sectors, while contributing to local manufacturing capacity for specialised construction materials.
Lubrizol and Grasim Industries Ltd have inaugurated a new Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) resin manufacturing facility at Vilayat in Bharuch district, Gujarat, marking an expansion of domestic production capacity for a material widely used across the construction and infrastructure sectors.
The facility was inaugurated on June 16 by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. The event was attended by senior representatives from the state government and both companies, including Abhishek Shrivastava, Vice President and Managing Director, Lubrizol IMEA; Rebecca Liebert, Chief Executive Officer of Lubrizol; Jayant V Dhobley, Business Head and Chief Executive Officer, Global Chemicals, Aditya Birla Group; and Gujarat Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Das.
The project has been developed through a collaboration between Lubrizol and Grasim Industries and is aimed at strengthening India's manufacturing capabilities in CPVC resin. The material is a specialised thermoplastic used extensively in plumbing systems, water supply infrastructure, fire protection networks and industrial piping applications due to its durability and resistance to heat and corrosion.
According to officials, the facility is expected to help meet increasing domestic demand for CPVC resin as infrastructure development and real estate construction activities continue to expand across the country. The availability of locally manufactured resin is also expected to support downstream manufacturers producing pipes, fittings and related building products.
The construction sector remains one of the largest consumers of CPVC-based products, particularly in residential and commercial developments where plumbing and water distribution systems require materials capable of withstanding varying temperatures and pressures. CPVC is also increasingly used in fire sprinkler systems and industrial facilities because of its performance characteristics and longer operational life.
Industry participants view domestic manufacturing capacity as an important component in reducing dependence on imported raw materials and ensuring stable supply chains for construction and infrastructure projects. The new facility is expected to serve customers across multiple sectors, including housing, urban infrastructure, industrial development and utilities.
Officials stated that the plant would support growing demand from both infrastructure and building materials segments. Demand for advanced piping solutions has increased in recent years alongside investments in urban development, water supply projects, industrial parks and residential construction.
The inauguration of the Vilayat facility adds to Gujarat’s position as a major manufacturing and chemical production hub. Bharuch district, which hosts several chemical and industrial clusters, has attracted significant investments in speciality chemicals, petrochemicals and industrial materials due to its established industrial ecosystem and logistics connectivity.
With the commencement of operations at the new plant, Lubrizol and Grasim aim to strengthen the supply of CPVC resin for India’s construction and infrastructure sectors, supporting the growing requirement for specialised materials in residential, commercial and industrial projects.
