Punjab-based IIT Ropar's Centre of Excellence ANNAM.AI and US agribusiness company Syngenta have entered into a strategic collaboration to develop AI-powered climate-smart agriculture solutions for India. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed during Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France. The partnership aims to create crop health and pest forecasting systems, heat-stress models and AI-driven decision-support tools to help farmers make more informed and resilient agricultural decisions while promoting the adoption of next-generation technologies.
Punjab-based IIT Ropar on Monday announced that its Centre of Excellence, ANNAM.AI, has entered into a strategic collaboration with US agribusiness firm Syngenta to advance AI-powered climate-smart agriculture in India. The partnership was formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed during Bharat Innovates 2026 in Nice, France, with the objective of developing technology-driven solutions to improve agricultural decision-making.
The collaboration will focus on creating accurate crop health and pest forecasting systems, heat-stress models and artificial intelligence-based decision-support solutions. These tools are intended to enable farmers to make more informed, resilient and data-driven agricultural decisions while addressing challenges posed by changing climatic conditions and evolving crop management requirements.
According to the institutions involved, the initiative seeks to combine advanced artificial intelligence capabilities with agricultural expertise to strengthen predictive modelling and support sustainable farming practices. The proposed solutions are expected to assist in improving crop monitoring and forecasting while providing timely information that can help farmers manage risks more effectively.
Syngenta Group Chief Executive Officer Jeff Rowe stated that ANNAM.AI represents an opportunity to contribute to a digital foundation for Indian agriculture that could benefit more than 600 million people in the country. The company indicated that the collaboration aligns with its efforts to support innovation and technology adoption within the agricultural sector.
IIT Ropar Director Rajeev Ahuja said the partnership between ANNAM.AI and Syngenta demonstrates the importance of industry-academia collaborations in promoting the adoption of next-generation agricultural technologies. He indicated that such collaborations can help bridge research and practical implementation by bringing together scientific expertise and industry capabilities.
The announcement comes during the ongoing Bharat Innovates 2026 event in Nice, France, where ANNAM.AI is showcasing its artificial intelligence ecosystem for agriculture. The platform highlights the application of AI technologies across various aspects of farming, with a focus on improving productivity, resilience and data-driven decision-making.
The collaboration reflects a growing emphasis on integrating artificial intelligence into agriculture to address climate-related challenges, enhance forecasting capabilities and support the development of digital tools for India's farming ecosystem.
