Synopsis

Siemens Ltd has secured a supply order from Titagarh Rail Systems to provide advanced propulsion systems and Train Control and Monitoring Systems (TCMS) for the Pune Metro Rail project extension. The contract covers the design, manufacture, supply and warranty of traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors and TCMS for 12 trainsets. While the financial value of the order was not disclosed, the collaboration is expected to support localisation and strengthen India's urban mobility manufacturing ecosystem.

Technology company Siemens Ltd has secured a supply order from Titagarh Rail Systems for the Pune Metro Rail project extension, the company announced on Monday. The order involves the supply of advanced propulsion systems and Train Control and Monitoring Systems (TCMS) for 12 trainsets that will be deployed as part of the metro network expansion.
Under the scope of the contract, Siemens will undertake the design, manufacture, supply and warranty of traction converters, auxiliary converters, traction motors and TCMS. The company, however, did not disclose the financial value of the order.
The propulsion and control systems form critical components of metro rolling stock, enabling efficient train operations, power management and real-time monitoring of onboard systems. The contract is intended to equip 12 trainsets that will serve the Pune Metro extension project.
Siemens stated that the order aligns with the growing focus on sustainable urban transportation infrastructure in India. The company indicated that the expansion of metro rail networks across cities has increased the importance of developing a strong domestic manufacturing and technology ecosystem to support the sector.
Rajeev Joisar, Chief Executive Officer of the Mobility Business at Siemens, said India's continued investment in sustainable urban transport underscores the need to strengthen local manufacturing capabilities and technology development for the mobility sector.
Titagarh Rail Systems also highlighted the significance of the collaboration for future urban mobility projects. Vice Chairman and Managing Director Umesh Chowdhary stated that the partnership with Siemens would contribute to accelerating indigenisation efforts while serving as the beginning of a potentially long-term collaboration between the two companies in India's urban mobility landscape.
The order adds to the ongoing investments in metro rail infrastructure across Indian cities, where domestic manufacturing and technology partnerships are increasingly being emphasised to support expanding public transport networks. Through the supply of propulsion equipment and train control systems, the collaboration is expected to contribute to the operational requirements of the Pune Metro Rail project extension while supporting localisation initiatives within the rail manufacturing ecosystem.
