Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified action against property owners who failed to comply with mandatory tenant verification rules in Jammu. In a recent enforcement drive, several landlords were booked and FIRs were registered for not submitting tenant details or completing police verification before renting out their properties. The crackdown was carried out under district-level security directions aimed at improving monitoring of tenants, domestic helpers, and paying guests. Authorities stated that non-compliance weakens security systems and have urged all property owners to strictly follow verification procedures to avoid legal consequences.
Jammu and Kashmir Police have stepped up enforcement against property owners in Jammu for not following mandatory tenant verification rules before renting out residential and commercial properties. The action was taken as part of a structured security exercise under district administration guidelines that require landlords to submit complete tenant details to the concerned police station before or immediately after renting out any property.
During the recent enforcement drive, police registered FIRs against multiple property owners who either failed to complete tenant verification or did not submit the required information within the prescribed timeline. Officials confirmed that legal action was initiated under applicable provisions linked to violation of administrative orders issued for tenant monitoring and public safety.
The verification drive is part of an ongoing security mechanism designed to track occupancy in rented accommodations and maintain updated records of tenants, paying guests, and domestic workers. Authorities stated that such monitoring helps strengthen internal security and reduces the risk of misuse of rented properties for unlawful or suspicious activities.
Police teams conducted checks across several localities in Jammu and identified cases where landlords had either partially submitted documentation or completely ignored the verification process despite clear instructions being in place. In some instances, properties were rented out without initiating any formal police verification process.
Officials reiterated that tenant verification is a mandatory requirement and not optional, stressing that failure to comply results in strict enforcement action, including FIR registration. They also noted that similar drives are conducted periodically as part of routine security monitoring across sensitive and high-density residential areas.
Authorities have once again urged all property owners to ensure timely submission of tenant details and full cooperation with local police stations. The ongoing crackdown reflects continued efforts to improve compliance levels and maintain a structured database of individuals residing in rented accommodations across the region.
