Villagers from Jewar in Uttar Pradesh, who contributed land for the development of the Noida International Airport, took part in a significant milestone as they boarded the first passenger flight from the newly operational airport. The flight operated from Jewar to Lucknow and marked the beginning of commercial air services from the facility.
Around 170 farmers were part of this inaugural group, including nearly 20 women. Most of them were first-time flyers and were specially invited to be part of the launch journey, recognising their role in the airport’s development. The arrangement highlighted the transition of land once used for agriculture into a large-scale aviation infrastructure project.
The inaugural flight was organized after the airport began operations this week, with the Jewar–Lucknow route among the first set of services. The passengers were also scheduled to meet Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, where their contribution to the project was expected to be acknowledged.
The development of Noida International Airport has been a long-term infrastructure project, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi laying its foundation stone on November 25, 2021. The airport was inaugurated on March 28 this year, and commercial operations have now started, improving air connectivity in western Uttar Pradesh.
For the local community, the event marked both an emotional and practical shift, as families who once farmed the land are now witnessing an operational airport built on it. The start of flight services is expected to gradually strengthen regional connectivity and support broader economic activity in the surrounding areas.
