The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is moving towards a barrier-free toll collection system, with all its toll plazas expected to transition to the new model by December. The initiative is aimed at improving traffic movement, reducing long queues at city entry points, and creating a more efficient and technology-enabled tolling mechanism.
Under the proposed system, vehicles will be able to pass through toll plazas without stopping at physical barriers. Automated identification and digital payment technologies will enable seamless fee collection, significantly reducing delays that often occur during peak traffic hours. The shift is expected to benefit both commercial and private vehicle operators who regularly enter the city.
Officials believe the barrier-less model will help ease congestion on major arterial roads leading into Delhi.
