Eight people were injured after a fire broke out in a residential building in Juhu, Mumbai, in the past week, prompting a large-scale rescue and firefighting operation by civic authorities. The blaze occurred at Manisha Building on JVPD Road near Arogya Nidhi Hospital and resulted in significant damage within the affected section of the property. Fire brigade officials, police personnel, civic authorities and emergency services were deployed to contain the incident and evacuate residents.
According to information provided by the Mumbai Fire Brigade, the fire was reported during the morning and was subsequently classified as a Level-1 fire. Initial assessments indicated that the blaze originated within electrical installations located around the sixth floor of the building, leading to dense smoke spreading through upper levels of the structure. Emergency responders were mobilised immediately after the alert was received.
The residential building, located in one of Mumbai’s established suburban neighbourhoods, witnessed an extensive emergency response involving multiple fire engines, ambulances, police personnel and representatives from the electricity distribution network. Firefighters undertook evacuation operations while simultaneously working to prevent the fire from spreading to other parts of the building. The blaze was brought under control and fully extinguished after several hours of firefighting efforts.
Authorities stated that the injured residents suffered primarily from smoke inhalation during the incident. Those affected included senior citizens and other occupants residing in the building. The injured were shifted to nearby hospitals for medical treatment and observation. Officials indicated that those hospitalised were in stable condition and receiving appropriate care.
The incident has once again drawn attention to fire safety preparedness within residential buildings across Mumbai, particularly in high-density urban areas where evacuation and emergency access can present operational challenges. Fire officials routinely emphasise the importance of maintaining electrical systems, fire-fighting equipment and evacuation protocols in residential societies to minimise risks during emergencies.
Mumbai has witnessed several fire incidents in residential and commercial properties in recent years, leading civic authorities to strengthen inspection mechanisms and encourage greater compliance with safety regulations. While investigations into the precise cause of the Juhu fire are continuing, officials have begun assessing the extent of the damage and examining the circumstances that led to the outbreak of the blaze.
The fire was ultimately contained without any loss of life, but the incident highlighted the importance of emergency preparedness and building safety measures within the city’s residential housing stock. Civic agencies are expected to complete their assessment and submit findings following the conclusion of the investigation.
