Synopsis

• Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has launched a QR code-based door numbering system for all properties in the city.
• Each building will receive a unique QR code linked to a central municipal database.
• The system will store ownership details, property tax records, and utility connection data.
• The initiative aims to improve transparency, simplify access to property information, and strengthen civic service delivery.
• It will also support better tax administration, faster address verification, and improved coordination between municipal departments.

The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation has introduced a QR code-based door numbering system that will assign a unique digital identity to every property across the city. The initiative is part of the civic body’s move towards digital governance and improved urban record management.
Under the project, each residential and commercial property will be given a scannable QR code linked directly to a central municipal database. This database will include key property details such as ownership records, property tax information, and utility connections. With this system, both officials and residents will be able to access verified property-related information more easily than traditional manual records.
The civic body has planned a phased replacement of existing door numbers with QR-enabled digital identifiers. The transition is expected to gradually cover all properties, ensuring that each unit is integrated into the updated system without disruption. The QR-based system is also aimed at reducing inconsistencies in property data and improving the accuracy of municipal records.
Officials have stated that the initiative will directly support property tax administration by making records more accessible and reducing manual verification work. It is also expected to assist in waste management monitoring, emergency response services, and faster address identification across municipal departments.
In addition, the system is designed to improve coordination between different civic wings by providing a single verified source of property information. Similar digital door numbering and QR-based identification systems have been explored in other urban regions as part of broader efforts to modernise civic infrastructure and improve service delivery efficiency.
