Synopsis

The Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) has directed officials to speed up floodwater drainage and complete the ongoing Palavagu modernisation works connecting Rayapudi and Krishnayapalem. During a field inspection across multiple locations in the capital region, ADC Chairperson and Managing Director D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy reviewed water flow conditions, desilting activities and drainage infrastructure. Officials and contractors were instructed to remove bottlenecks, install additional pipes where required and expedite pending works. ADC also warned agencies responsible for delays that legal action could be initiated if inadequate drainage disrupts water flow during heavy rainfall.

Amaravati Development Corporation (ADC) Chairperson and Managing Director D. Lakshmi Parthasarathy has directed engineering officials to ensure the uninterrupted and faster flow of floodwater originating from elevated areas near Harischandrapuram. She also instructed authorities to expedite the modernisation of Palavagu, which connects with Kondaveetivagu at Krishnayapalem through Rayapudi, as part of efforts to strengthen the region’s drainage infrastructure.
During a recent inspection of the Palavagu modernisation works from Krishnayapalem to Rayapudi, Parthasarathy reviewed water flow conditions near the Shiva temple in Krishnayapalem. She also inspected desilting activities beneath the N-4 bridge, where soil accumulation has been affecting water movement. Officials from BSCPL, including Project Director Abdul Khader, were directed to deploy additional excavation machinery and ensure floodwater is channelled efficiently towards the Krishnayapalem reservoir.
The ADC chief further instructed officials to install alternative pipelines at locations along E-5 Road near Venkatapalem where existing structures are obstructing the natural flow of water through Palavagu.
During the visit, she expressed dissatisfaction over the pace of desilting work beneath the N-6 West Bypass Bridge. Although the bridge has three vents, each measuring 15 metres in width, soil removal had been completed in only one vent over a period of three days. Concerned representatives were instructed to accelerate work in the remaining two vents. ADC also warned that legal action could be considered if water flow beneath the bridge is obstructed due to delays in completing the required works.
Parthasarathy personally reviewed the condition of Palavagu at N-7 and Mandadam village. She directed officials to immediately undertake pipe-laying works at crossing points where the stream intersects with road infrastructure. Inspections were also carried out at Peramma Vagu near the N-10, E-4 and HOD Towers area in Uddandarayunipalem, along with the Palavagu diversion works near the Rayapudi Parade Grounds.
The inspection continued at the Kondaveetivagu modernisation site beneath the E-11 West Bypass Bridge in Kuragallu, where representatives of the executing agency were instructed to expedite desilting operations beneath bridge vents. The ADC team also reviewed the construction of a box culvert at the N-9 Palavagu Junction and along the Seed Axis Road corridor.
In addition, the head sluice works, a critical component of the Palavagu drainage network, were inspected and officials were issued directions to ensure timely completion of pending activities. The ongoing drainage improvement measures form part of broader efforts to strengthen flood management infrastructure in the Amaravati capital region, particularly ahead of the monsoon season.
ADC Chief Engineers B. Narasimha Murthy and CH Dhananjaya, Superintending Engineers Ramohan Rao and CH Ramesh, and Executive Engineers S. Sridhar and K. Basaveshwara Rao were among the officials present during the inspection.
