DesignCafe and HomeLane have announced that DesignCafe Co-founder Shezan Bhojani will step down from his operating role to pursue a new entrepreneurial venture. The transition comes as DesignCafe reports significant growth following its integration with HomeLane, including a 30 per cent increase in business, expansion of its retail network from 15 to 23 stores within 18 months, and improvements in profitability. The company is targeting 40 per cent year-on-year growth during the current financial year and plans to open 11 additional stores. DesignCafe will continue to be led by Co-founder and CEO Gita Ramanan, supported by an established leadership team, as the company advances its long-term growth and IPO plans.
DesignCafe and HomeLane have announced the departure of DesignCafe Co-founder Shezan Bhojani from his operating role, marking a leadership transition as the home interiors company prepares for its next phase of expansion and future public market ambitions.
The move comes at a time when DesignCafe is reporting strong business growth following its integration with HomeLane. According to the company, DesignCafe has recorded approximately 30 per cent growth since the merger, while significantly expanding its physical presence across key markets. Its retail footprint has increased by more than 50 per cent, growing from 15 stores to 23 stores over the past 18 months. The company noted that this expansion was achieved in a much shorter period compared with the first nine years of its operations, during which it established its initial 15 outlets.
The company also reported improvements in cost structures and profitability and stated that it remains on track to achieve 40 per cent year-on-year growth during the current financial year. These developments, according to the management, support DesignCafe's longer-term objective of pursuing an initial public offering (IPO).
Bhojani co-founded DesignCafe and played a central role in developing the company into a design-focused home interiors brand with a nationwide presence. Following his transition, the company said it would continue to build on the foundation established during its growth journey.
Looking ahead, DesignCafe plans to open 11 additional stores during the current financial year as it seeks to strengthen its market presence. The company stated that the integration with HomeLane has contributed to operational efficiencies and business growth across both organisations.
Leadership of DesignCafe will continue under Co-founder and CEO Gita Ramanan. She will be supported by Chief Operating Officer Anoop Krishnan, who oversees operations and revenue execution across markets, and Senior Vice President Swati Santani, who leads product development, catalogue management and growth initiatives.
At the group level, HomeLane continues to be led by Co-founder and CEO Srikanth Iyer and Co-founder Tanuj Choudhry. The companies stated that the combined leadership structure provides continuity as both brands pursue further growth within India's home interiors market.
Commenting on the transition, Gita Ramanan said Bhojani had consistently pushed the organisation to explore new opportunities and expand its horizons. She added that DesignCafe would continue to build on that entrepreneurial culture as it pursues its next stage of development.
Srikanth Iyer said the integration of DesignCafe and HomeLane had generated positive outcomes across growth, profitability and scale. He acknowledged Bhojani's contribution in building DesignCafe into a recognised brand within the home interiors segment and expressed confidence in the company's future under its existing leadership team.
Reflecting on his departure, Bhojani stated that building DesignCafe had been one of the most significant experiences of his professional career. He noted that the company is well positioned for future growth under its current leadership and highlighted the progress made since the integration with HomeLane.
The companies reiterated their commitment to expanding their presence in the home interiors market through a combination of design capabilities, technology adoption and customer-focused service delivery.
