The Andhra Pradesh government, under the leadership of HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh, has initiated a free registration drive for house sites allocated to economically weaker sections in Mangalagiri. Beneficiaries will receive full ownership rights after two years. This initiative, which falls under the 'Mana Illu - Mana Lokesh' program, has already covered more than 1,030 families, including over 430 earlier this week. The minister also announced a series of infrastructure projects, such as a 100-bed hospital, improved roads, and urban drainage. The drive reflects a larger development vision for Mangalagiri, coinciding with Lokesh's political resurgence.
In a decisive step toward inclusive urban development, Andhra Pradesh's HRD and IT Minister, Nara Lokesh, has announced that house sites distributed to low-income families in Mangalagiri will be registered free of cost beginning next week. These beneficiaries, who belong to economically weaker sections, will gain full ownership of the plots after a mandatory two-year holding period. This move is part of the ongoing 'Mana Illu - Mana Lokesh' initiative aimed at delivering housing security and empowerment to underprivileged citizens. Advertisement
According to the minister, more than 1,030 families have been covered under this housing drive so far, including over 430 families who received their allotments earlier this week. Lokesh urged allottees not to sell their plots even after gaining the right to transfer ownership, citing the area's expected growth. He indicated that the value of these sites will rise significantly in the coming years as Mangalagiri undergoes major infrastructural upgrades.
He explained that the objective behind offering free registration was not merely legal documentation but a commitment to long-term stability and urban transformation. Lokesh stressed that if beneficiaries chose to sell their land later, they might lose out on the substantial value appreciation expected due to the planned infrastructure improvements in the region.
Among the major upcoming projects, the minister announced the construction of a 100-bed government hospital in the area. He also revealed plans to revamp the surroundings of Sri Panakala Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple and ensure seamless road connectivity with standards comparable to metro cities. In addition, underground drainage systems are being planned to modernise basic civic infrastructure.
He further outlined developments such as the inauguration of SVLN Park and ongoing work on six other parks across Mangalagiri. Land has been identified for constructing 17 community halls, while other upgrades include household drinking water pipelines, LPG supply through underground pipelines, and improvements in electricity distribution.
Reflecting on his political journey, Lokesh said his electoral loss in the 2019 assembly elections served as a pivotal moment, prompting a deeper understanding of people's expectations. This defeat, he said, motivated him to engage more directly with residents. His comeback in 2024, where he won by a margin of over 91,000 votes, reinforced his commitment to Mangalagiri's transformation.
The minister expressed confidence that Mangalagiri would emerge as a model constituency, benefitting from an integrated approach to infrastructure, welfare, and connectivity. The government's strategy, he indicated, focuses not only on physical development but also on social equity.
What sets this initiative apart is not only the promise of land ownership but the careful integration of health, transportation, sanitation, and community infrastructure. Minister Lokesh's investment, shaped by his political journey, underscores a renewed governance approach that merges accountability with vision. Mangalagiri's trajectory, if sustained, could serve as a blueprint for other rapidly urbanizing regions across India.
