The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) recently demolished 167 illegal structures in Titwala's Baneli area, including plinths for unauthorized rooms and three completed illegal constructions. Despite resistance from locals, the operation proceeded under tight security. In the Baneli neighbourhood of Titwala, the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) recently conducted a demolition operation, destroying 167 unauthorised structures. These structures primarily consisted of plinths intended for unauthorized rooms, which were demolished before they could be completed. Additionally, three fully constructed illegal rooms were also razed to the ground. The operation was conducted as part of KDMC's ongoing effort to address and eliminate illegal construction activities within its jurisdiction. The Baneli area had been facing challenges with illegal developments, many of which had been constructed without the necessary permissions, threatening to disrupt the urban landscape and causing concerns regarding safety and legal compliance.
This demolition drive follows a series of similar actions by the KDMC, which has been increasingly aggressive in tackling unauthorized buildings. Earlier in the year, the civic body had already demolished hundreds of illegal structures, primarily those constructed in breach of building norms, before they could be completed. These actions are viewed as part of KDMC's broader strategy to ensure that urban growth complies with legal and regulatory standards, promoting safety and fairness within the real estate sector.
One of the significant motivations behind the increased demolitions was the unearthing of a major scam involving the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). Investigations revealed that 65 builders had been involved in the illegal sale of flats, using forged documents to acquire RERA certificates for buildings that had not received proper approvals. This scam has been a major cause for concern, as it not only violated building regulations but also jeopardized the interests of unsuspecting buyers who were duped into purchasing properties that did not meet legal standards.
In response to these findings, KDMC has ramped up its efforts to crack down on illegal constructions across the region. The recent demolitions in Titwala and other areas are viewed as part of this intensified push to curb illegal building activities, with authorities ensuring that such structures are dismantled before they can pose a larger threat to the urban environment.
