In a significant milestone for affordable housing in Chhapra, 184 beneficiaries were handed the keys to their new homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban 1.0. The initiative provides INR 2.5 lakh per beneficiary in three installments. Additionally, 683 beneficiaries under PMAY Urban 2.0 received their first installment payments, continuing the region's progress towards improving housing availability. This development is part of the government's mission to ensure housing for all and improve the standard of living for underserved communities.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) Urban 1.0 has given keys to 184 beneficiaries' newly built homes, a significant boost to affordable housing in Chhapra. This initiative, which forms part of the government's ambitious target of providing housing for all by 2022, marks a significant step towards improving living conditions in the region.
Saran District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Ravindra Kumar confirmed that each beneficiary received financial assistance of INR 2.5 lakh in three installments for the construction of their homes. This support was provided in line with government specifications, ensuring that the homes are constructed to meet basic standards of safety and sustainability. The first and second installments of INR 1 lakh each were disbursed between October 2024 and March 2025, while the third instalment, amounting to INR 50,000, was paid in the final phase.
The distribution ceremony, held earlier this week, was presided over by Municipal Commissioner Sunil Kumar Pandey, who highlighted the importance of the PMAY initiative in addressing the growing housing needs of urban populations. He emphasized that these efforts are a reflection of the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for people in Chhapra and its surrounding areas.
In addition to this, 683 beneficiaries under PMAY Urban 2.0 also received their first instalment payments, marking another significant step in the state's ongoing housing development programme. This is a part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing housing shortages and ensuring that underserved communities have access to affordable and decent living spaces. The PMAY Urban 2.0 initiative is expected to provide further relief to low-income families, offering them the opportunity to own homes and achieve financial stability.
This milestone also reflects the steady progress in Bihar's housing sector, which is focused on strengthening the infrastructure needed to accommodate growing urban populations. The government's efforts are not just about providing homes but are also aligned with long-term objectives of improving urban living conditions and fostering sustainable community growth.
