The Haryana government has established a four-member committee to look into the recent e-draw process used for the allocation of affordable housing units in Sector 36, Sohna. This decision follows the results of a draw held on January 27, where all 708 available flats were awarded to residents of Sohna, raising suspicions about the fairness of the process. The controversy stems from the Affordable Housing Policy of 2013, which aims to ensure fair distribution of housing across various demographics. According to reports, out of 51,586 applicants, only those from Sohna received flats, contradicting the policy's intention of inclusivity. The committee, which includes senior officials from the town planning department, will assess whether the issue arose from a technical error in the e-draw system or if there was an administrative oversight. Additionally, they will investigate the possibility of any intentional bias in the allocation process.
The e-draw was part of a project developed by 4S Developers, licensed under number 235 of 2023. The senior town planner for Gurgaon raised concerns about the allocation results, prompting the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to issue orders for a fresh draw in accordance with policy guidelines. The scrutiny of the e-draw software is also underway to ensure compliance with eligibility criteria that apply across the state.
