The Rajasthan government is set to digitize land records in 10 municipalities across the state through the 'Naksha' project, which will involve digital mapping using drone surveys. This initiative is part of the 'Digital India Land Record Modernization' program, which has been ongoing since 2008. The project aims to enhance transparency, simplify access to land information, and help resolve land disputes. Additionally, it is expected to aid in urban planning by providing accurate property demarcations and digital records. The Rajasthan government will be digitizing land records in 10 municipalities through the 'Naksha' project, which will use drone surveys for digital mapping. This project is part of the 'Digital India Land Record Modernization' program, which was launched in 2008 to improve the accuracy, transparency, and accessibility of land records across India. The project is set to begin on February 18, with the state-level launch being inaugurated by Urban Development and Housing Minister Jhabar Singh Kharra, according to an official statement. The municipalities selected for this initiative include Bhiwadi, Kishangarh, Beawar, Sawai Madhopur, Jaisalmer, Pushkar, Bagru, Behror, Nawalgarh, and Nathdwara. The primary goal of the project is to create digital land records that ensure transparency and make it easier for people to access information related to land ownership. Director of the Local Bodies Department, Indrajeet Singh, mentioned that this step would bring a significant change in urban development. It would allow for precise property demarcation, provide digital records of land, and make ownership details available online.
This initiative builds on previous efforts in Rajasthan to modernize land record management. In 2015, the state launched the 'M-Governance for Land Records' program, allowing citizens to access land-related information through their mobile phones. The Naksha project is an extension and advancement of these efforts, focusing on incorporating modern technology, like drones, to enhance the accuracy of land records.
Rajasthan is not the first state to use drone surveys for land mapping. States like Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have already implemented similar initiatives. By using drones, these states have improved the precision of land surveys, sped up data collection, and reduced human errors in the process.
The initiative is also expected to help reduce land disputes and streamline the process of urban planning, making it more efficient and transparent. On the national level, Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, along with Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Dr Chandrashekhar Pemmasani, will lead the official launch of the project.
The 'Naksha' project represents an important step towards transforming land record management in Rajasthan. By digitizing records and using drone surveys for mapping, the initiative aims to bring greater transparency and accessibility. It continues the state's commitment to improving land governance, building on past initiatives like the 'M-Governance for Land Records' program.
