Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to resolve land acquisition disputes in Agra through amicable negotiations with farmers. Land aggregation in Rahankalan and Raipur is crucial for urban expansion, but compensation issues have led to protests. In a high-level review meeting, Yogi emphasized structured urban development across seven key cities to support Uttar Pradesh's USD 1 trillion economy goal. Plans include 100 new townships, hospitals, and hotels, along with slum redevelopment and GIS-based master plans for 59 cities. He also pushed for a centralized digital approval system and faster completion of metro and convention center projects.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to address the unresolved land acquisition disputes in Agra through amicable negotiations with local farmers. To facilitate urban expansion and establish greenfield business and residential hubs, land aggregation was essential in Rahankalan and Raipur along the inner ring road. However, protests persisted as several farmers had not received compensation, despite the local development authority acquiring control of their land over a decade ago. During a high-level review meeting, Yogi, who also oversees the housing department, evaluated the progress of planned greenfield townships under seven development authorities. Apart from Agra, structured urban expansion is crucial in Jhansi, Bareilly, Chitrakoot, Aligarh, Gorakhpur, and Bulandshahr. He highlighted the need for systematic urban development, linking it directly to Uttar Pradesh's USD 1 trillion economy target. Housing and urban planning officials provided updates on metro rail corridors under development in Agra, Lucknow, and Kanpur. Yogi affirmed that well-planned expansion would drive economic growth, generate employment, and elevate the quality of life.
The state government aims to establish 100 new townships across key cities, urging development authorities to expedite hospitality and healthcare projects. Plans include constructing 100 new hotels and an equal number of hospitals in strategic locations to cater to the growing urban population. Yogi stressed that these projects would not only bolster economic growth but also reinforce Uttar Pradesh's position as an emerging investment hub. Yogi also assessed governance reforms, enquiring about the implementation timeline for the centralised building plan approval system.
This initiative will enable digital processing of maps and layouts, eliminating paperwork and streamlining urban planning approvals. Acknowledging the importance of technology in modern governance, he insisted on accelerating its rollout to enhance efficiency and transparency. Urban slum redevelopment was another key agenda. Yogi explored the feasibility of replacing congested shanties with high-rise buildings, integrating open spaces such as parks, gymnasiums, and gardens. He highlighted that such initiatives would significantly uplift the urban poor, providing them with improved living conditions and access to essential amenities.
Additionally, he sought updates on the completion of GIS-based master plans for 59 cities. These advanced blueprints, currently in their final stages, incorporate provisions for green corridors, water bodies, and ring roads to accommodate future urban expansion. He instructed officials to expedite these projects, ensuring that urban growth aligns with sustainability goals. Yogi also directed the Lucknow Development Authority to accelerate work on the proposed international exhibition-cum-convention centre in the state capital. The centre, envisioned as a premier venue for global business and cultural events, will enhance Lucknow's prominence as a destination for international conferences, trade fairs, and exhibitions.
