The Housing and Urban Development Department of Bhubaneswar has assigned specific roles to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) to improve affordable housing allocation. The BDA will develop housing projects and transfer them to the BMC for distribution, ensuring a smoother process. Both agencies must finalize an action plan for slum redevelopment under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0 within 15 days. A committee will address eligibility issues, while banks will help with financial support. Discussions also included the Mahisakhal Project Phase II. These efforts aim to accelerate housing distribution and provide equitable housing for slum dwellers.
To enhance the allocation process for affordable housing developments in Bhubaneswar, the Housing And Urban Development Department has assigned specific responsibilities to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC). The distribution of homes built by the BDA for slum dwellers was the main topic of discussion at a recent high-level meeting that was presided over by department secretary Usha Padhee. Enhancing coordination between the two agencies and ensuring a more seamless allocation procedure were the main topics of discussion.
In accordance with the new guideline, the BDA has been directed to carry out more affordable housing projects in response to demand before transferring them to the BMC for distribution. According to the minutes of the meeting, the BDA will determine whether it is feasible to turn over ongoing and finished projects to the BMC. Furthermore, in compliance with Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana 2.0, both authorities have been instructed to develop an action plan for the distribution of homes under In-Situ Slum Redevelopment projects as well as a plan for identifying eligible beneficiaries.
The department has given the BDA and BMC 15 days to finish these responsibilities. A special committee will also be formed to examine extraordinary circumstances and handle eligibility issues pertaining to project participants. Officials are arranging talks with banks to establish financial links and help beneficiaries with financial support, making sure that individuals who qualify can obtain the money they need.
A senior local body official stated that issues with house allocation and beneficiary identification necessitated this high-level discussion. The start of the Mahisakhal project's second phase was another topic of discussion at the conference. The Mahisakhal Project Phase II calls for the construction of G+4-story buildings with 160 apartments, costing INR 25.40 crore. It is anticipated that the BDA will submit a request for approval for the same to the department.
To speed up the distribution of affordable housing in Bhubaneswar, the department of housing and urban development is advocating for a more robust approach. The government hopes to speed up project completion and guarantee equitable home allocation to slum dwellers by giving the BDA and BMC separate powers. The provision of sustainable housing alternatives for Bhubaneswar's underprivileged groups may advance significantly if these steps are carried out effectively.
