The Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to allocate over 8.21 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin (PMAY-G) for beneficiaries in Madhya Pradesh. The initiative aims to bolster rural housing development, ensuring more families have access to secure homes.
The Ministry of Rural Development announced that the central government has released INR 3,726 crore so far this fiscal to facilitate the swift disbursement of the first instalment to beneficiaries, enabling them to commence construction. It further stated that upon timely utilisation of the funds, an additional INR 4,934 crore may be provided within the fiscal year.
In a recent development, Chouhan also approved the construction of 3.3 lakh additional houses under the scheme in Chhattisgarh, furthering the government's commitment to rural housing.
Last year, the cabinet had sanctioned INR 3.06 lakh crore for the construction of 30 million houses across the country over five years, with 20 million earmarked under PMAY-G. This is in addition to the government's ongoing target of completing 29.5 million rural houses within this fiscal. Out of these, around 26.9 million homes have already been completed.
Since the scheme's inception in 2016, a total of 32.3 million houses have been sanctioned, covering both past and current commitments. The ministry further highlighted that INR 2.37 lakh crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries nationwide. In Madhya Pradesh alone, 4.15 million houses have been sanctioned since 2016, with approximately 3.68 million already completed.
The Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana - Gramin continues to play a vital role in bridging the rural housing gap, ensuring millions of families have access to stable and secure homes. With the allocation of additional houses and continued financial assistance, the scheme is on track to meet its ambitious targets. The government's commitment to timely fund disbursement and effective utilisation will be crucial in accelerating construction efforts. As PMAY-G progresses, states like Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh stand to benefit significantly, contributing to overall rural development and improved living conditions for many.
