Synopsis

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recently reviewed the progress of single-window camps under the PM-UDAY scheme, which grants ownership rights to residents of 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi. Since late November, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has conducted these weekend camps at 10 centres, benefiting over 13,300 applicants. Services include conveyance deeds, authorisation slips, property registrations, and resolving pending applications. Sub-registrars were deployed to expedite on-the-spot property registrations. Over 2,000 new applications were filed, with 506 deeds and slips issued, and deficiencies in thousands of cases resolved. The initiative, running until December, is a significant step toward legal recognition of homes, ensuring security for residents and showcasing the effectiveness of a mission-driven approach.

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recently assessed the progress of the single-window camps under the Prime Minister-Unauthorised Colonies in Delhi Awas Adhikar Yojana (PM-UDAY). According to a statement from the Raj Niwas, more than 13,300 applicants from unauthorised colonies attended the camps and benefitted from the services offered. The PM-UDAY scheme, designed to grant ownership rights to residents of 1,731 unauthorised colonies in Delhi, aims to provide legal recognition to their properties. The primary objective of this initiative is to ensure that residents obtain formal ownership rights, securing legal recognition of their homes.

Under Lieutenant Governor Saxena's instructions, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has been conducting these camps every weekend since the end of November. These camps, held at 10 processing centres across the unauthorised colonies, are scheduled to continue until the end of December. A total of 13,353 applicants have attended the camps in order to have their properties regularised.

Most applicants had their applications processed and approved on the spot. In some camps, DDA officials worked late into the evening to clear the long queues. Following the instructions of Lieutenant Governor Saxena, the second camp, organised earlier this month, also saw the presence of sub-registrars to ensure the finalisation of ownership rights through property registration.

During the Lieutenant Governor's visit to a camp in Najafgarh earlier this month many individuals, while praising the initiative, requested that on-the-spot property registrations be facilitated. In response, Saxena instructed that sub-registrars be present at the camps to ensure the process was completed without delay.

More than 2,000 new applications were filed at the camps. Over the past two weeks, conveyance deeds and authorisation slips were issued for 506 applications, and 21 deeds were registered. The statement further highlighted that thousands of pending regularisation applications had their deficiencies cleared, with hundreds of them being approved.

The services available at these camps include the issuance of conveyance deeds and authorisation slips, GIS surveys, new registrations, and assistance with bond and notarisation matters. From the weekend of December 7-8, sub-registrars were deployed to the camps to facilitate property registrations. Additionally, similar special camps were organised to handle the mutation of properties based on inheritance and to provide electricity connections to 14,000 applicants who had faced long delays due to the land-pooling policy.

The PM-UDAY initiative has proven to be a significant step in regularising properties in unauthorised colonies, offering residents the much-needed legal recognition and security. The success of the camps, with thousands of applications processed and deficiencies cleared, highlights the effectiveness of the mission mode approach. The introduction of sub-registrars at the camps has further streamlined the process, ensuring a smooth and efficient procedure for property registrations. The continuation of this initiative until the end of December will provide further relief to many more residents seeking ownership rights for their homes.
