The Andhra Pradesh government has announced plans to lift the ban on 22A lands, aiming to help poor landowners who have been affected by previous regulations. Revenue Minister Anagani Satya Prasad highlighted that the previous administration had misused the 22A designation, which prohibited certain lands from being registered or sold. He stated that many landowners faced harassment as their lands were wrongfully classified under this category. In response to numerous appeals from public representatives, the government is taking steps to reassess these lands and remove unjust restrictions.
District collectors have been instructed to provide a report within three days, detailing the number of lands classified under 22A in their respective districts and the categories they fall under. This information will be crucial for the government to understand the scope of the issue and to plan the next steps effectively. The government aims to restart the resurvey of lands on January 20, which will involve a thorough examination of land records and ownership claims.
Minister Satya Prasad emphasized that approximately 4.5 lakh acres of land were unlawfully placed under the 22A restriction during the previous government, with around 7,000 acres registered illegally. He assured that all such registrations would be canceled, and action would be taken against officials involved in these irregularities. This move is expected to restore rightful ownership to many landowners who have been deprived of their lands.
The government is also addressing corruption within the revenue department. Some Mandal Revenue Officers (MROs) are under investigation for creating fake passbooks and facilitating bank loan scams. To ensure transparency and accountability, the government will continue revenue conferences until January 20, where grievances will be collected and resolved within 45 days.
The resurvey process will be conducted carefully, with a focus on accuracy. Each village will be treated as a separate unit for the re-survey, and only 20 acres will be surveyed per day to minimize errors and manage the workload effectively. In areas where previous surveys have been conducted, the government has received around 180,000 complaints, all of which will be addressed, with new passbooks issued to affected landowners.
This initiative reflects the government's commitment to resolving longstanding land issues and restoring the rights of landowners in Andhra Pradesh. By lifting the ban on 22A lands and implementing a comprehensive re-survey, the government aims to create a more equitable and transparent land management system that benefits all citizens.
