Urban Development Secretary Nitesh Jha announced that the central contribution per house has risen from INR 1.5 lakh to INR 2.2 lakh, facilitating the construction of homes for families with annual incomes between INR 3 lakh and INR 18 lakh. The initiative has already resulted in over 34,000 homes built in the state, supporting the goal of providing housing for all urban homeless families.

The Uttarakhand government has finalized an agreement with the Union government for the second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, which will provide increased financial support to beneficiaries. According to officials, over 34,000 homes have been built in the state under this initiative to date.

The upgraded PM Awas Yojana 2.0 was announced by the Centre in September. Urban Development Secretary Nitesh Jha stated that the central government's contribution per house has risen from INR 1.5 lakh to INR 2.2 lakh, ensuring greater assistance for beneficiaries in the state.

Officials from the Urban Development Department noted that the program offers grants for house construction to families with annual incomes ranging from INR 3 lakh to INR 18 lakh, with the goal of providing housing solutions for all urban homeless families.

In the first phase, the Centre approved a total of 64,391 houses for Uttarakhand. Out of the 25,976 homes sanctioned under the beneficiary-led construction component, 12,222 had been completed as of October, while construction on the remainder continues. The central government contributes INR 1.5 lakh per house (totalling INR 263.7 crore), with the state government adding INR 50,000 per house.

For the affordable housing component, 15,960 homes were sanctioned, 11,384 allocated, and 1,894 completed. The Centre again contributes INR 1.5 lakh per house (totaling INR 161.9 crore), and the state provides an additional INR 2 lakh, making the beneficiary's share INR 3.5 lakh per house.

All 19,919 houses approved under the loan-based construction component have been successfully completed, and interest subsidies are provided through banks.

With thousands already benefiting from this program, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami affirmed its vital role in transforming the lives of homeless families across the state, showcasing a collaborative effort between the central and state governments to improve living conditions for all.

The second phase of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana represents a significant step forward in addressing housing shortages in Uttarakhand. By increasing financial contributions and expanding eligibility, the initiative aims to ensure that more families can access stable and affordable housing.
