The Ghaziabad Development Authority has proposed a 16-km metro corridor connecting Vaishali to Gokulpuri in Delhi via Hindon Civil Terminal, aiming to improve regional connectivity and provide direct access to the airport facility. The proposal has been sent to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for preparation of a detailed project report. The corridor is expected to pass through key residential zones such as Indirapuram and Vasundhara, strengthening multimodal transport integration and supporting urban expansion in Ghaziabad and adjoining NCR regions.
The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) has proposed a 16-km metro corridor connecting Vaishali in Ghaziabad to Gokulpuri in northeast Delhi via Hindon Civil Terminal, with a request submitted to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for preparation of a detailed project report.
The proposal, put forward in the past week, aims to improve connectivity between Ghaziabad and Delhi while providing direct metro access to Hindon Civil Terminal, which functions as a regional airport serving parts of the National Capital Region. The planned corridor is expected to include around seven stations along its route.
The alignment is proposed to pass through key residential and transit areas such as Sahibabad, Mohan Nagar, Pasunda, and Hindon Civil Terminal, linking densely populated localities including Indirapuram and Vasundhara. These areas currently rely heavily on road-based transport, with increasing traffic congestion on arterial routes.
Officials indicated that the proposed corridor forms part of a broader strategy to expand metro connectivity within Ghaziabad and integrate it more closely with Delhi’s existing metro network. The extension is expected to connect with operational metro lines at Vaishali and Gokulpuri, enabling seamless interchange for commuters travelling across NCR.
The project is also expected to strengthen multimodal connectivity by linking metro services with air travel at Hindon Civil Terminal. Such integration is intended to improve last-mile connectivity and reduce travel time for passengers accessing the airport.
The GDA has requested DMRC to undertake feasibility assessment and prepare a detailed project report, which will outline technical specifications, station locations, cost estimates, and implementation timelines. Funding structure and execution model are expected to be finalised following the DPR stage.
From an urban development perspective, metro expansion is likely to influence real estate activity across Ghaziabad, particularly in residential micro-markets along the proposed corridor. Improved connectivity typically enhances accessibility, which in turn supports housing demand and commercial development in adjoining areas.
The proposal aligns with broader infrastructure-led growth in the National Capital Region, where metro rail expansion is being used to support urbanisation and manage increasing commuter volumes. The corridor is expected to reduce dependence on road transport while improving connectivity between emerging residential clusters and established employment centres.
The project remains at the proposal stage, with further approvals and detailed planning required before construction can commence.
