Synopsis

Godrej Properties Ltd has launched Neighbours With Nature, a platform aimed at neighbourhood-level ecological restoration and environmental integration across its developments. The initiative, announced in the past week, brings together the developer's sustainability efforts, including waste diversion, water recharge and afforestation, under a single framework. As part of its first project, the company has partnered with I Am Gurgaon to support the revival of the 5.2-km Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh in Gurugram. The corridor, previously a degraded drain, has been restored into a green urban stretch with native plantations, pedestrian pathways and water recharge systems. The platform is intended to scale ecological interventions across emerging micro-markets while linking real estate development with surrounding environmental infrastructure.

Godrej Properties Ltd has introduced a new platform titled  Neighbours With Nature in the past week, aimed at integrating ecological restoration initiatives with its residential developments by focusing on neighbourhood-level environmental improvements across urban micro-markets.

The platform has been designed to consolidate the company's ongoing sustainability initiatives under a single framework, with a focus on biodiversity enhancement, water system restoration, waste management and community engagement. The developer stated that the initiative seeks to create measurable ecological impact in areas surrounding its projects, extending beyond individual developments to the wider neighbourhood environment.

As part of the first phase, the company has partnered with I Am Gurgaon to support the restoration of the Chakkarpur Wazirabad Bundh, a 5.2-km ecological corridor located in Gurugram. The site, previously characterised as a degraded drainage channel, has undergone transformation through plantation of native species, reuse of construction and demolition waste, and development of pedestrian and cycling pathways.

The restoration work also includes installation of solar-powered lighting and interventions aimed at strengthening rainwater recharge and groundwater systems. The corridor has been positioned as a functional green urban space that combines ecological restoration with public accessibility.

The initiative was supported by the participation of Dia Mirza, who highlighted the importance of integrating natural systems within urban environments. She indicated that such initiatives demonstrate how ecological considerations can be embedded into city planning and residential development, contributing to improved liveability.

Company officials stated that environmental quality in urban areas plays a significant role in shaping residential experience, with access to green spaces, air quality and walkability influencing overall wellbeing. They added that the initiative aims to align development planning with these broader environmental parameters.

Godrej Properties reported that its ongoing sustainability efforts include diversion of over 96,000 tonnes of waste from landfills in the past two years, recharge of more than 17 million litres of water and plantation of over 4 lakh trees over five years. The new platform is intended to expand such interventions across future projects and micro-markets.

The company also showcased the initiative at its development, Godrej Miraya, which has received IGBC Net Zero Waste Platinum certification at the design stage. The project includes integration with a nearby restored water body, supporting biodiversity and natural drainage systems.

The platform is aligned with the broader sustainability framework of the Godrej Group, which emphasises environmental responsibility within business operations. By linking real estate development with surrounding ecological systems, the initiative reflects a growing focus on incorporating environmental considerations into urban planning practices.

The approach also indicates increasing collaboration between developers and civic organisations in delivering urban environmental projects, particularly in cities experiencing rapid expansion and infrastructure pressure.
