Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has announced a massive INR 10 lakh crore investment in artificial intelligence over the next seven years at the India AI Impact Summit. The plan focuses on building gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar, Gujarat, powered by green energy, along with a nationwide edge-compute network integrated with Jio's telecom infrastructure. Reliance will also develop sovereign AI capacity within India to enhance data security. Through the Jio Intelligence platform, AI services will support sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture and retail. Existing tools like JioShikshak, JioArogyAI and JioKrishi highlight the company's ambition to position India as a global AI and digital infrastructure leader.
Reliance Industries Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani has announced an INR 10 lakh crore investment in artificial intelligence over the next seven years, marking one of India's largest commitments to digital infrastructure. The announcement was made at the India AI Impact Summit.
Ambani said Reliance and Jio plan to build AI capabilities at scale, similar to how Jio expanded affordable mobile data across India. He stated that India should not depend on external intelligence systems and that the company aims to reduce the cost of AI services significantly.
The investment will focus on three core areas. First, Reliance will develop gigawatt-scale AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar, Gujarat. These facilities will be supported by up to 10 gigawatts of surplus green energy, positioning the region as a major data infrastructure destination. Second, the group will establish a nationwide edge-compute network integrated with Jio's telecom infrastructure to ensure low-latency AI services. Third, the plan includes building sovereign compute capacity within India to strengthen data security and domestic technological capability.
Ambani described the capital deployment as long-term and structured, aimed at creating sustainable economic value. Jio will lead the rollout, delivering AI-based services across sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, retail and public administration.
Under the Jio Intelligence platform, the company will create infrastructure designed to serve both enterprises and small businesses. The network will extend from urban commercial centres to rural markets, supporting applications that require real-time data processing.
Ambani outlined five principles guiding the initiative: prioritising AI in deep-tech and manufacturing; building multilingual AI models; ensuring responsible deployment with data residency safeguards; generating skilled employment; and developing partnerships with startups, enterprises and research institutions.
Reliance has already introduced AI-led applications including JioShikshak for adaptive learning in 22 languages, JioArogyAI for medical guidance, JioKrishi aimed at supporting 140 million farmers, and JioBharatIQ, a voice-based assistant for access to education, employment and government services.
India currently has nearly one billion internet users, processes over 12 billion digital transactions each month, and hosts one of the world's largest startup ecosystems. Ambani said these factors position the country to become a leading global AI power.
With Jamnagar set to host large-scale green-powered data centres, the investment is expected to strengthen India's digital infrastructure landscape and reinforce its role in the global AI economy.
