Ziel has begun operating its EV-first intercity bus platform in South India on high-demand routes, with services planned to expand gradually to longer corridors and other regions. GEMS will operate the buses, while ElectriGo will lease and support the fleet, starting with 50 electric buses. The group aims to deploy 200 buses, 150 trucks, and 50 electric mining machines by FY 2026-27. Ziel plans a broader push into passenger, cargo, and industrial EV segments, backed by partnerships for energy, charging, and operational support to ensure scalable and sustainable electric mobility solutions.
Ziel has launched an EV-first intercity bus platform in South India, beginning operations on routes with strong passenger demand. The company plans to gradually expand services to cover longer intercity corridors and additional regions as demand grows.
Under the initial rollout, GEMS will operate the electric buses on Ziel's platform, while ElectriGo will lease the first batch of vehicles and provide asset support. A memorandum of understanding has been signed to deploy 50 electric buses as part of this initial phase, ensuring smooth operational coordination between the companies.
Ziel and GEMS, part of the same corporate group, are leveraging their combined experience to streamline fleet operations. ElectriGo's support extends beyond leasing to include lifecycle management and operational backing, which is expected to facilitate wider adoption of electric buses.
Sunil Kumar, Director of both Ziel and GEMS, shared that the group aims to deploy 200 buses, 150 trucks, and 50 electric mining machines by FY 2026-27. The strategy focuses on large-scale EV deployment across passenger, cargo, and industrial segments rather than small pilot projects.
Balavignesh, Co-founder of Ziel Mobility, noted that scaling operations will rely on strategic partnerships, with energy and charging infrastructure developed alongside vehicle deployment. ElectriGo's co-founder, Sudhindra Reddy Pidapa, emphasized that leasing and operational support are key to promoting electric bus adoption.
Beyond passenger transport, GEMS is already operating electric loaders and excavators at mining sites, demonstrating that electric vehicles can function efficiently in high-utilisation and heavy-duty environments.
Ziel's immediate focus will remain on intercity routes with high passenger volumes, with plans to expand further as demand grows. The platform also intends to integrate additional operational and infrastructure support to make EV travel commercially viable and scalable across regions.
