Synopsis

Singapore's Changi Airport recorded its highest-ever passenger traffic in 2025, handling around 70 million travellers during the year. This marked a clear recovery from the aviation slowdown caused by the pandemic and surpassed the airport's earlier peak of 68.3 million passengers in 2019. Traffic also rose from about 67.7 million passengers in 2024, reflecting steady growth. Officials linked the strong performance to the revival of international travel and said it supports long-term infrastructure expansion plans, including the upcoming Terminal 5 project.

Singapore's Changi Airport achieved a new milestone in 2025 by handling approximately 70 million passengers, the highest annual figure in its history. The latest numbers confirm that the airport has moved beyond its pre-pandemic performance, overtaking the 68.3 million passengers recorded in 2019. Passenger traffic also grew compared to 2024, when the airport handled about 67.7 million travellers, indicating sustained momentum in global air travel.

The increase was supported by the continued recovery of international routes, higher flight frequencies, and stronger demand across key markets in Asia-Pacific, Europe, and North America. Airport authorities noted that passenger volumes remained stable throughout the year, supported by both leisure and business travel, as well as Singapore's role as a major transit hub.

The strong passenger performance has reinforced confidence in Changi Airport's long-term expansion strategy. The airport operator has been advancing plans for Terminal 5, a large-scale development that was paused during the pandemic but later redesigned to reflect new travel patterns and operational needs. Once completed, Terminal 5 is expected to significantly raise Changi's overall passenger handling capacity from the current level of about 90 million passengers per year.

Terminal 5 is planned as a technology-driven facility, with a focus on automation, digital systems, and operational efficiency. Sustainability has also been built into the design, including provisions for energy-efficient systems and the use of cleaner fuels. The terminal is expected to open in the mid-2030s, subject to construction timelines and regulatory approvals.

Changi Airport's 2025 performance highlights how major global aviation hubs have recovered from the severe disruptions of recent years. The steady rise in passenger numbers reflects improving airline capacity, stable travel demand, and Singapore's continued position as a key international aviation and logistics centre.
