Synopsis

The Bengaluru East City Corporation has begun action against 11 unauthorised buildings found to have major deviations from their approved plans. During inspections, officials discovered significant violations, including a multi-storey structure in Whitefield that is now being manually demolished due to several unapproved floors. The crackdown follows a survey of more than 600 under-construction properties, after which notices were issued under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961. While many cases are still tied up in court, these 11 sites had full clearance for demolition. The move signals the civic bodys firm effort to curb illegal construction and strengthen urban regulatory compliance.

The Bengaluru East City Corporation has taken decisive action against 11 unauthorised structures identified during a detailed inspection that revealed significant departures from sanctioned building plans. The additional commissioner (development) stated that one property in the Whitefield area was being demolished manually due to the presence of multiple unapproved floors.

This enforcement followed a large-scale survey conducted on more than 600 under-construction buildings, which resulted in the issuance of notices under the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, 1961. While many cases remain tied up in legal proceedings or court stays, the 11 selected sites had received all necessary permissions to proceed with demolition.

The civic body?s latest move represents a firm stance against unauthorised developments in Bengaluru. By acting against major violations, the BECC aims to reinforce adherence to building regulations and strengthen the city?s urban governance framework.
