Synopsis

MahaRERA has recorded over 50,000 registered agents, paralleling the number of housing projects registered with the regulator. Agents from over 150 cities outside Maharashtra, including New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad, have also obtained registration under MahaRERA, highlighting the widespread impact of Maharashtra's real estate market. Currently, of the 50,673 registered agents, 31,980 registrations remain active, while 18,693 have been cancelled due to various reasons, including failure to obtain mandatory certification or renew licenses. The Konkan area, encompassing the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, leads with the highest number of agents, followed by Pune. This development underscores the critical role agents play in bridging developers and homebuyers while adhering to RERA regulations.

The number of registered agents for MahaRERA has surpassed 50,000, which is in close proportion to the number of housing projects that have been registered with the regulator. This milestone follows the inclusion of agents not only from Maharashtra but also from over 150 cities across India, such as New Delhi, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Ahmedabad. This extensive registration base highlights the prominence of Maharashtra's real estate market and its influence across the country.

Out of the 50,673 registered agents, 31,980 registrations are currently active, while MahaRERA has de-registered 18,693 agents due to various reasons. A significant number of these cancellations were due to agents either failing to obtain the mandatory certification or not renewing their licenses, a requirement enforced by the regulator to ensure adherence to the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act, 2016.

Konkan, which includes the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, has the highest number of registered agents at 21,050. The Pune area follows with 8,205 agents, while Nagpur has 1,504, Northern Maharashtra has 490, Sambhajinagar has 343, and Amravati has 237 registered agents. Mumbai city alone has 3,457 agents, while its suburbs contribute 8,365 to the total count in the Konkan area.

In addition to Maharashtra, agents from other states have also sought registration with MahaRERA, indicating the regulator's expanding influence in the national real estate sector. These agents facilitate crucial interactions between developers and homebuyers, providing essential regulatory information such as the Model Sale Agreement, Allotment Letter, Carpet Area, and Defect Liability Period. MahaRERA mandates that all agents must undergo training to remain informed of these provisions, ensuring consistency and transparency in property transactions.

Furthermore, the de-registration of 18,693 agents underscores the regulator's stringent stance on non-compliance, with many terminations resulting from the failure to obtain necessary certification or the lapse of license renewals.

The approach not only promotes transparency and accountability but also ensures that homebuyers receive consistent and accurate information during property transactions. Additionally, the considerable number of de-registrations highlights the regulator's stringent oversight, emphasising the importance of ongoing training and certification to maintain active registration status.
