The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya is a flagship greenfield project under the Amritsar-Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), a central government initiative to boost industrial development across eastern India. The project is spearheaded by Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Limited (BIMCGL), a special purpose vehicle (SPV) formed through a partnership between the central and Bihar state governments. The IMC is strategically linked to the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), a key railway route for cargo transport, which allows faster and more efficient movement of goods across the region.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has officially granted environmental clearance for the development of a 1,670-acre area within the IMC Gaya. This approval is crucial because it allows construction and development activities to begin while ensuring compliance with environmental standards.
The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya will cover a total area of 1,670 acres, with more than 1,000 acres dedicated to industrial use through carefully zoned plots. The project is designed to offer high-quality infrastructure, including multimodal transport options such as road and rail connectivity, along with essential utility services like water, electricity, and logistics facilities. The township will follow a well-planned layout that incorporates principles of sustainability and smart city development.
As part of its focus on environmental responsibility, a joint team recently conducted an inspection of proposed water storage systems and pipeline layouts to ensure a sustainable water supply. Additionally, the IMC's strategic location along the Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) strengthens its connectivity and transport efficiency, positioning it as a key industrial hub in the region.
This clearance marks a major milestone for Bihar's industrial ambitions. IMC Gaya is set to become the state's first integrated industrial township, transforming Bodh Gaya and its surrounding areas into a centre for economic growth and innovation. The project combines industrial development with environmental responsibility, making it a model for future smart cities.
The government views this initiative as a turning point for Bihar, aiming to attract investment, create jobs, and boost regional economic development while maintaining ecological balance.
